Held from Wednesday 18 to Monday 30 September, reuse sales took place in Polden Court and Thornbank Gardens to encourage students to buy second hand items by donating to charity.
The sales saw items such as crockery, cooking utensils, laundry baskets, shoe racks, books and clothes airers all find new homes, as well as hundreds of coat hangers given away for free to rather than going to landfill.
Products were donated by students whilst moving out of their accommodation at the end of last term. Rather than disposing of their unwanted goods, students were encouraged to donate their items to the Accommodation Operations team, who then hosted the resale.
As well helping new undergraduate and postgraduate students pick up some bargain homewares, the resale supports our Leave No Trace initiative, which aims to reduce our environmental footprint by promoting sustainable alternatives across campus. By enabling students to buy pre-owned items, we are helping to save waste from being sent to landfill, while also reducing the consumption of new products.
