It doesn’t seem like a year ago since we moved in to our new home in 6 West. The ground floor of the building now houses IT Support, IT Literacy, part of the Audio Visual Unit and Service Desk (although the Helpdesk is still located in the Library). After a few bumps along the way, we now have a better working environment that has many benefits to our previous ways of working.

IT Support

Within IT Support we have managed to release office space within Departments across the University and enabled centralised management of all IT Supporters. It has facilitated knowledge, tools and equipment sharing across teams and has enabled us to improve many of our processes to provide excellent service to our customers. It has made more efficient use of our resources by having centralised collection and delivery of hardware and by reducing travelling time for meetings and collaboration. There is now less lone working and improved interaction with other Computing services teams.

Communications

IT Literacy comprises of two teams – Information Management and IT Training. The Information Management team is now able to communicate quickly and easily with the Audio Visual Unit, Service Desk and IT Support teams to ensure communications are sent out in a quick and efficient way.

IT Training

IT Training has been given a complete overhaul with a brand new, state of the art IT training facility. It comprises of two training rooms seating up to 12, with touch screen displays and a much better layout. The flexibility of the new desks mean that both technical and soft skills can be taught in these rooms. We still offer the same great training in subjects such as Office and University systems but in a much better environment. It is nearer to central campus and is a more accessible space. Not only are we able to offer a wide range of training for staff and postgraduate students, we also offer training to undergraduate students through the SU Skills programme and workshops through the Doctoral College.

We can also provide bespoke training to teams on many of our applications and services, contact us at it-training@bath.ac.uk to discuss your requirements.
