Thoughts, post QR coffee break
Posted by Andy Ramsden in Uncategorized April 30th, 2009I ran the session today. From my perspective I thought it went well. Outside of the e-learning team, there were 2 people, and one that couldn’t access it for technical reasons. There seems to be an issue with the image used on machines in the Library. They are looking into it.
I tried to give the session an obvious exit point. In particular to encourage them to visit the eLPF for more info, such as links, accessing the files and continue the dialogue within the e-learning practitioners Forum. I set up a coffee break area, a forum and some links (including to the presentation). Unfortunately, the camtasia recording didn’t work as the audio must have conflicted with the audio on Megameeting. So it is a silent movie
I’ll need to think why, and canvas the team … Dom, any ideas?
The approach was the same as outlined in an earlier post by me. It would be really useful if people modified the post and the page (coffee break) as they try the approach. Lots of opportunity to share experiences and build a consensus.
I did encourage them all to turn off their video links.
This is our first try at this type of staff development session. We’ve another three in planned. It is very much an iterative process, so the questions I’d like the participants to answer are;
- How did they find it as a learning activity?
- Was it too short or too long?
- How might it be improved?

Not bad for a first attempt. But I think I learned more about MegaMeeting then QR codes! Yes more time would have been good, did not really have time to compose ones thoughts for questions. Pity about the Camtasia video! What you were saying was far more relevant than what was being shown. And I did not take notes as I though I could review it later. So re-take of some kind would be nice. MegaMeeting is something I would like o know more about as we are looking at ways of giving online tutorials to our placement students. Do we have to pay for it? How do we get trained as super users to host a meeting?

I thought the timing for the presentation was about right. I think it is useful to have the elearning forum for continuing dialogue following the meeting, but I think it would be better to allow live discussion/ questions through megameeting – as you have all those interested parties online at once! Maybe 5-10 minutes could be allowed for this. Otherwise there are limited benefits of having a live presentation and it could just be recorded for people to view at convenient times, then leave messages on the asynchronous forums.
A great way to share ideas though and I look forward to the next meeting!
Thanks
