Mr Gove's been up on the roof

Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove is clearly a Drifters fan – well, aren't we all; I'm always thinking about being somewhere under the boardwalk, down by the sea.

However, the cerebral Mr Gove, as you might expect, rather than being "out of the sun, having some fun", prefers something much more elevated.  He was, for example, recently seen with another minister on the roof of a London primary school.  You can see them here,  and it seems obvious from Mr G's expression that this was going through his mind  ...

When this old world starts getting me down
 and people are just too much for me to face,
I climb way up to the top of the stairs
, and all my cares just drift right into space.

Just so.  Up on the roof, of course, it's peaceful as can be
, and there the world below can't bother Mr G.

Some terminal optimists clearly see this picture as evidence that Mr Gove and the Department for Education will soon be reinventing the sustainable schools initiative.  I'd say they should think again, because, as Michael Gove well knows, ...

When I come home feelin' tired and beat
, I go up where the air is fresh and sweet.
I get away from the hustling crowd
, and all that rat-race noise down in the street;
On the roof, the only place I know
 where you just have to wish to make it so
.
