Have you been enjoying the balmy weather? The warmest February ever, we’re told, since recording began. Although we never quite reached the dizzy heights of Aberwystykh's 20 on Monday, or Kew's 21.2 yesterday, it was warm enough and enjoyable. The garden has never been so tidied-up seven weeks into the new year. My compost heaps are groaning and the green bin can't cope with the heavy stuff.
I have not been enjoying the idea of the weather though; the idea that something has gone badly wrong somewhere if a plume of warm air is stretching from below the Azores to near the pole. The weather folk point the finger at the jet stream which is always a convenient scapegoat. But what influenced that? Answers on a postcard please.
