Embedding Public Engagement Methods into the Student Learning Experience

Documenting our journey in devising a sustainable strategy for integrating public engagement methods into the student learning experience

What do we want to do?

The aim of this project is to devise a sustainable strategy for integrating PE methods into the student learning experience across both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, building on the 3 Ws of Engaged Teaching. We will develop a framework for integrating a suite of innovative PE methods into student learning, such as podcasts, blogs, press releases, lay summaries, for integration into both small and large group classes. We will trial these methods with samples of undergraduate and postgraduate taught students (with additional peer assessment during the sessions) and obtain feedback regarding learning enhancement, engagement and enjoyment, and suggestions for improvements and future iterations. After evaluating this we will feedback to colleagues via staff meetings and Bath Course sessions, as well as blogs and a written summary available via Moodle. Ultimately we hope that this framework development and trialing of innovative methods will inform PE integration into the upcoming curriculum redesign.
