Building networks across Europe with automotive leaders and innovators

Members of the Institute of Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (IAAPS) team attended the 29th Aachen Colloquium in the beautiful city of Aachen early in October.  The Colloquium has established itself as one of the highlight conferences in the automotive calendar with presentations and displays from leading manufacturers, consultancies and institutions.  This year Professor Sam Akehurst presented in the main Europa hall to a large audience keen to learn about the experimental effects of water injection on combustion within a high performance gasoline engine conducted as part of the “Bath and Jaguar Land Rover Boosting and Dilution Centre of Excellence”.

Professor Akehurst was in good company with technical presentations from BMW, Porsche, Mazda, Volkswagen, FEV, and Mahle Powertrain Ltd. to name only a few of the 100 talks given.  A wide variety of topics were covered in the five simultaneous sessions, including new engine technology and concepts, hybridisation, modelling and intelligent driving.  In addition to the presentations, delegates have the opportunity to test drive a number of vehicle concepts and innovations on the test track.  The conference also offered opportunities to network with a traditional banquet held around the market square in Aachen.

These colloquia and major events are crucial for IAAPS to showcase the excellent research that we deliver and the facilities we offer, and to network and connect with key industry players across the automotive sector, as we look to expand our commercial operations and research partnerships with the opening of IAAPS – the Institute for Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems – in 2021.
