Easter break – opportunities for international students

Posted by js296 in International Student News & Events No Comments »

We hope you manage to have a well deserved break over the Easter vacation, whatever your plans.

What is Easter?

Traditions: Special services take place in churches and people, Christians and non-Christians, exchange Easter eggs and Easter bunnies which are not Christian elements of the occasion but have become part of the celebrations.

What is May Day?
May Day on 1 May is a traditional British celebration dating back to the fourth century.  It celebrates the end of the cold months and the beginning of summer.  It is also linked to International Worker’s Day around the world. Different festivals are organised around the UK on and around May 1st to celebrate. The celebrations include Morris dancing in England, which is a traditional English folk dance,  erecting a tall wooden pole called a Maypole, and the hobby horse (or ‘obby oss) which dances and plays music in Minehead and Padstow.

Look out for local May Day celebrations:

Most shops will be closed on Easter Sunday (24 April)

Many shops will have reduced opening hours on the bank holidays (22 April,

Bath:

Monday and Friday ‘drop in’ advice times will now be 10 – 12 noon until further
