Update 10:12am: Issues have now been resolved and we are continuing to investigate why this outage happened.

There appears to be an issue with SAMIS and Business Objects this morning.

We are investigating and we will update you as soon as we know more.

Maintenance and upgrades will be taking place during our at risk* period, Tuesday 12 July 2016.

SAMIS upgrade

Work on SAMIS upgrade begins at 6pm, Tues 12 July.  SAMIS will be unavailable Wed and Thurs, and SAMIS on the web will be unavailable for 3 days, Wed to Friday, 13 to 15 July.

*Our 'at risk' period is between 7am and 9am on Tuesdays when we carry out scheduled maintenance, modifications and testing. This work is essential to maintain and develop the services that we provide.

SAMIS unavailable, Wed to Fri, 13 to 15 July 2016

  

📥  IT disruption, IT maintenance

SAMIS will be unavailable, Wednesday and Thursday  13 and 14 July 2016, while we upgrade to version 9.1.  This is a significant upgrade and, as recommended by our software supplier, we have set aside two days to complete the work.   In addition, SAMIS on the web will be unavailable for an extra day (Wednesday to Friday, 13 to 15 July).

We need time to backup the databases and complete underlying work on the servers and databases before the upgrades commence.  For this reason, we would ask users to stop using SAMIS by 6pm on 12 July.

Unavailable applications

The following applications will be unavailable for the duration of the upgrade:

  • University user account creation & some other computing services user account tools
  • Application Tracker
  • Online Applications
  • SAMIS bookings (PG Skills, University Open Days, UCAS Open Days)
  • Applicant username and password generation
  • Registration
  • SAMIS on the Web (Student and Staff: includes Unit Evaluation and Coursework Coversheet printing and scanning) - Wednesday to Friday 13 - 15 July
  • Student Lookup
  • Access to Student Services Helpdesk (ESD)
  • SAMIS Desktop Client (Staff only)
  • Business Objects (SAMIS-related reports only)
  • Learning Materials Filestore (LMF)
  • Student library card production (staff cards will be unaffected)

All SAMIS client users will be informed by email when SAMIS is available again or you can follow the news on twitter @UniofBathIT.

Connections to SAMIS

Data to / from SAMIS and other systems will not update during the upgrade. If you are responsible for any technical interfaces to/from SAMIS, please ensure that your connections to the database will not be attempting to run during this period. Systems that provide data to or get data from SAMIS include:

  • UCAS
  • Moodle
  • HUB
  • CareerHub
  • Room Service
  • Agresso
  • PURE
  • Student Loan Company
  • Students' Union (MSL)
  • Exam Timetable

SAMIS will be upgraded on the 21 and 22 December 2015 and that means that it will be unavailable from 10pm, Sunday 20 December 2015 for the following two days.

This is a significant upgrade and, as recommended by our software supplier, we have set aside two days to complete the work. The following applications will be unavailable:

This is a significant upgrade and, as recommended by our software supplier, we have set aside 2 days to complete the work. The following applications will be unavailable:

  • BUCS user account creation & some other computing services user account tools
  • Application Tracker
  • Online Applications
  • SAMIS bookings (PG Skills, University Open Days, UCAS Open Days)
  • Applicant username and password generation
  • Registration Online (ROL)
  • SAMIS on the Web (Student and Staff: includes Unit Evaluation and Coursework Coversheet printing and scanning)
  • Student Lookup
  • Access to Student Services Helpdesk (ESD)
  • SAMIS Desktop Client (Staff only)
  • Business Objects (SAMIS-related reports only)
