Temporary closure of footpath from West car park to Medical Centre

📥  10 West

As part of the 10W project, new gas and data services need to be run from car park D (South of 2 South building) to the new 10W building.

The route involves excavating and laying new services along the footpath that connects the West car park to the Medical Centre, along the South edge of the lacrosse pitch and through car park D.

The works are expected to last for 8 to 9 weeks, starting on Monday 22 June from 10W progressing towards car park D.

  • The footpath that connects the West car park to the Medical Centre (highlighted in green on the map) will be closed for a 3 to 4 week period from this date.
  • The public footpath (highlighted in blue on the map) will remain open for the duration of the works.
  • An alternative route is available by joining the public footpath nearer to Quarry Road at the far end of the West car park (highlighted in magenta on the map).

Further footpath and parking closures may be required as the works progress. We will keep you informed on these pages.

1 West Phase 3: Project Update June 2015

📥  1West

Midas Construction Limited continue apace with the reconstruction and fit out.

Installation of the ductwork for ventilation and infrastructure for the electrical services is currently underway.

Works to replace the existing roof with a high performance insulated felt roof have started and will continue over the next seven weeks.

Internal partitioning is due to start soon to provide bespoke office, laboratory and general teaching spaces.

Replacement windows are due on site in early June and scaffolding will start to be struck later in June.

Works to refurbish the existing staircase will also be starting in the next month.

Potential disturbance

1-West-Capture-2
Noise from the works will be unavoidable, however we hope the traffic light system above will assist.  It is not anticipated that the construction activity will create any more noise than the current ambient noise levels with the exception of the roof decking. Please also note that the dates above are a guide and likely to change as a result of unforeseen changes and site issues.

We do not anticipate any major interface issues with the current use of 1West, Library and 3West however there will be times when works at the junctions with these buildings will require alterations and additional hoarding to allow the tie in to be completed. These will be timetabled and managed in conjunction with the University Estates team. Interface works will be segregated at all times ensuring that the safety of the building user is paramount at all times.

Scaffold and temporary roof

The building is currently enclosed in a scaffold and temporary roof structure to allow the construction works to continue in the dry whilst the roof and windows have been removed. As works proceed these will be progressively removed to expose the new building. The site will be accessed from the level 1 underdeck to minimise contractor interaction with the student population. Site offices are in Brendon Court car park.

Safety will always be paramount to all our operations on site.

Pedestrian movement at site entrance

Site delivery numbers will now increase with the refurbishment of the now empty building shell, all vehicle movements will be strictly managed by Midas traffic marshal and by timing of deliveries around peak pedestrian movements times. Please take direction as required at site entrance gates from Traffic Marshals for your own safety.
