A free course from the MOOC provider FutureLearn titled 'Communicating complex information to lay audiences' is available and could help academics approaching this challenge for the first time.

The three week course aims to help you develop specific strategies to get your ideas across in a more impactful way. You will discover how to organise your messages, learn new techniques for explaining abstract ideas, and learn how to use and create visuals to enhance understanding.

In a time when experts are all too often ignored or misunderstood, communicating complex information accurately to inexperienced audiences is a prized skill. This course will help your develop this skill and give you an advantage when explaining your research to potential beneficiaries.
