The project draws on expertise from across the University, as well as that of our partner, Charles Beagrie Ltd.

University of Bath

Pro-vice Chancellor’s Office (Research)

Professor Jane Millar, BA, MA, DPhil, AcSS, FRSA, OBE is Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research). Responsibilities include the development and implementation of the University’s Research Strategy, the formation of research policy and procedures, and the promotion of collaborative research with strategic partners. She chairs the University Research Committee and University Research Students Committee.

Dr Maria Wells is the Executive Assistant, Research, supporting Professor Millar. She is secretary to the Research Data Management Steering Group and involved in the review and development of research policy at Bath.

Faculty of Science

Professor Matthew Davidson (Associate Dean, Research) is the Whorrod Professor of Sustainable Chemical Technologies and is Director of the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies and its EPSRC Doctoral Training Centre (DTC). He is Associate Dean for Research in the Faculty of Science and chairs the University’s Research Data Steering Group. He is a member of the Chemistry sub panel for REF 2014.

Jez Cope is currently ICT Project Manager for the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies, University of Bath, where he is responsible for maintenance and support for the Centre’s Virtual Research Environment (VRE). This role also includes training users and internal marketing of the VRE service.

UKOLN/Digital Curation Centre

Dr Liz Lyon is Director of UKOLN and Associate Director DCC. Liz authored the Dealing with Data and Open Science at Web-Scale Reports and led a series of pioneering research data management projects: eBank, eCrystals Federation, Infrastructure for Integration in Structural Sciences (I2S2) and SageCite. She has a doctorate in cellular biochemistry and has worked in various University libraries.

Alex Ball has written widely on curating engineering data; he also conducted one of the three Data Audit Framework Development case studies, and a Scientific Data Application Profile Scoping Study on behalf of the JISC.

Bath University Computing Services (BUCS)

John Howell is Assistant Director Computer Services department, leading the Management Information Systems teams that maintain the core business systems. He has extensive experience of complex relational databases and information security.

Dr Roger Jardine is Assistant Director for Systems and Networks. Recently, as part of the User-Services team, he has identified numerous issues with the University’s current storage paradigms and is currently planning toward more effective strategies.

Research Development and Support Office (RDSO)

Robert Head is Director of RDSO which manages large and complex projects both internally e.g. EPSRC Knowledge Transfer Account and externally to the University.

Katy McKen is Research Information Manager with responsibility for managing the information we hold in our corporate systems about research. Katy will act as Project Manager for the implementation of the University’s new CRIS. She is also responsible for co-ordinating the University’s submission to REF2014.

University of Bath Library

Kara Jones is the Research Publications Librarian. Kara has worked in academic libraries around the world for 15 years in subject specialist roles. She was responsible for setting up the University of Bath repository, Opus, which she manages.

Linda Humphreys has a degree in chemistry and over 20 years’ experience working in academic libraries. As Science Faculty Librarian she is responsible for library collections and services in support of the Faculty of Science, including training and promotional activities.

Charles Beagrie Ltd.

Neil Beagrie is director of consultancy at Charles Beagrie. He is an experienced senior consultant and an internationally recognised expert with extensive experience in information management, digital preservation, and developing access to digital collections.
