Bath Spa train station weekend closures 8-9, 14-17 & 22-23 April

📥  Public transport, Travel Update

This Easter (8-23 April) Network Rail will be undertaking rail improvement work in the Bath area  impacting on the ability of GWR to operate the usual train service.

Network Rail will widen the platforms at Bath as part of the ongoing infrastructure works linked to the introduction of GWR’s new IET trains and electrification.

On the weekends of 8-9, 14-17 and 22-23 April Bath Spa will be closed.

There will be no trains between Bristol and Bath, Chippenham and Bath or Trowbridge and Bath.

Throughout the weekends buses will replace trains between Bath and Chippenham, Bristol, Bradford on Avon, Trowbridge, Westbury and Frome. Stopping buses will serve Freshford and Westwood (for Avoncliff), Oldfield Park and Keynsham. A Castle Cary to Bristol service will also run to connect in/out of Weymouth line services which start/terminate at Westbury.

During the working week (April 10-13 and 18-21) only one platform will be available to run trains so a revised train service will operate with trains between Bristol Temple Meads and London Paddington via Bath and Chippenham will operating every hour.

Great Western Railway urge all customers to check travel arrangements by visiting www.gwr.com/Bath2017 and consider travelling on the Fridays and Mondays.

Information is available at all stations and on all journey planners.

Quick actions stop major incident on campus

📥  Road closures on campus

A major incident with a bus full of school children was avoided this morning, thanks to the quick actions of the bus driver, our Security team and the Fire and Rescue Service.

The bus was carrying children from Ralph Allen School children to the University on Convocation Avenue when the driver noticed the smell of burning.

He safely evacuated all the children and a member of the SU notified the Security who despatched six of the team, coordinated by colleagues in the control room.

The team closed the road and diverted traffic before taking the children to The Edge for their safety and giving some a lift back to school.

Fire-on-Convocation-avenueThe road remained closed for 40 minutes as the Fire and Rescue Service controlled the fire and allowed the vehicle to cool down.

All the children have now been safely collected by the school.

Brian Schofield, Head of Security Services, said “This was a great example of how staff training and experience allows the team to rapidly respond to incidents assisting the professional services to carry out their tasks and returning the University to normality at the earliest opportunity; apologies for any inconvenience to staff and student.”

Towpath closed between Green Park and Churchill Bridge

📥  Planned road works, Travel Update, Uncategorized

Works to create the new south facing riverside park as part of the Bath Quays Waterside Project are now over halfway complete.

In order to create the lower promenade, and widen the existing towpath between Green Park and Churchill Bridge, the towpath will need to be closed from Monday 9 January for the remainder of the north bank works. Boat moorings will still be accessible, with pedestrians and cyclists signposted to divert via Ambury, Corn Street, Green Park Road and Green Park cycle path – see diversion plan below.

The widened river bank is designed to accommodate the flow of flood waters, and so once open to the public, access to the bank will be restricted during flood events.

Construction updates will continue to be posted regularly on the project webpage.
