As part of the ongoing improvement to the network, Great Western Railway will have some changes to their services over the holiday period. The biggest change is that London Paddington will be closed to all rail services from Saturday 24 December to Thursday 29 December.
This means that GWR rail services will be starting and finishing at Ealing Broadway, where customers can make a connection to the underground or take scheduled bus services into London.
"Ealing Broadway does not have step-free access. We are therefore recommending that customers on our Bristol and South Wales services, who are travelling with heavy luggage, children, or who find steps difficult to change at Reading and use services from there to London Waterloo. This will mean a longer journey and we will be alerting customers to the changes well in advance so they can plan ahead."
Full details of the planned works can be found on the GWR website.
The motorcycle parking bays and bicycle bays opposite 2E in the underdeck will be suspended for a minimum of 4 weeks from Monday 17 October. Scaffolding already erected in this particular area has to be replaced with more robust scaffolding due to the urgent elevation works being conducted. All the relevant bay users will need to ensure that all cycles are removed before Monday morning. Apologies to all those affected by the disruption.
On Friday 7 October 2016 the annual Schools Biathlon Event is being held at the STV.
The event requires the full use of ‘G’ car park for the day.
Security will be closing ‘G’ car park from 10pm on 6 October 2016 and it will remain out of use until 6pm on 7 October 2016.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
The Underdeck will be closed 4 - 10pm on Tuesday 20 September and Wednesday 21 September.
The annual Ride Across Britain Event will be staying on campus from 11 to the 12 September 2016. This is an annual event and attracts c.600 cyclists riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
To accommodate the riders they will have sole use to the rear of the East car park and East Extension car park from 2000hr on Friday 9 September to early afternoon on Monday 12 September 2016.
As you can appreciate this will impact on parking, predominantly on the Monday morning.

From Monday 12 September to Friday 21 October 2016, the Severn Tunnel will be closed to enable electrification through to Cardiff and Swansea.
The three main stations affected are Bristol Parkway, Severn Tunnel Junction and Newport.
Newport to London services will be diverted and replacement buses will run between Newport and Bristol Parkway.
Alternative timetables will operate, with journeys from Newport to London taking about 35 minutes longer and Newport to Bristol 45 minutes longer.
Throughout the period the rail replacement coaches will be running between Bristol Parkway and Newport as well as Bristol Parkway and Severn Tunnel Junction, with multiple coaches and standby vehicles on all peak services.
Arrival in Parkway and Newport is set to meet the majority of connections where a full train service will run.
There will be extra customer service staff at all locations with information on connections.
For more information please visit the GWR website.
From Saturday 27 to Monday 29 August, the railway between Bristol Temple Meads, Bristol Parkway, Gloucester and Severn Tunnel Junction will be closed with many services being amended or replaced by buses. For more information visit the GWR website.
