The Team

Alison

Alison – Head of Web Services
(maternity leave)

Migrating down to the warmer South, Alison left her previous office at Edge Hill University littered with award winning projects. Wasting no time, she galvanised our team to address branding, market position and improving engagement with our audience.

This championing of the importance of marketing and good communications on the web has now led to overwhelming requests for Web Services’ involvement in every big initiative. Thanks Alison!

Phil

Phil – Acting Head of Web Services

Under Alison’s tutelage Phil has developed from a passionate software developer to thinking the big thoughts about web communications, interaction and strategy. He’s hoping to not let standards slip too badly whilst Alison is away!

Phil is often accused of having Google hard-wired into his brain. Something he has yet to deny.

Rich Prowse

Rich – Web Content Manager

Joining the team in September 2011, Richard is responsible for the delivery of web content. A graduate of the University of Leicester with over eight years experience of working in higher education, Richard is passionate about user experience and content delivery.

Richard is an indie fan boy and Apple fanatic!

Tom

Tom – Acting Web Development Manager

Tom writes code and is developing an interest in user interface design. Amongst other things, he wrote Person Finder – something he insists is not the same as LDAP. To be honest, we are too afraid to ask what that means.

Julian

Julian – Project Manager

After moving from the glorious Midlands to deepest, darkest Wiltshire in 2007, Julian married, travelled, then joined the University as an IT trainer in 2010. He now helps the team to focus on their work by managing the department’s many projects, keeping the dull stuff away from the technical and creative types he works with. Working in technical IT for more years than he can count on his fingers and toes, Julian also enjoys baking, drumming and photography, but has as yet to combine all three of his passions.

Liam

Liam – Web Designer

With qualifications in Graphic Design and Interactive Multimedia under his belt, Liam worked as both a freelance and agency-based Web Designer before joining Web Services. He even managed to swing a year-long gig working in California. Show off.

Since his appointment Liam has worked on raising the image of the University online and is now our go-to man for anything involving colour, layout  or typography for the web.

Jenni

Jenni – Web Content Editor

A member of the team since July 2010, Jenni works on our Study and About sections. With experience working within 3 HE institutes, Jenni is very focused on student recruitment and marketing and is passionate about content, strategy and well-placed words. She also likes to bake cakes on a regular basis…

Sophie Ottaway

Sophie – Web Content Editor

Joining the team in July 2011, Sophie looks after the Business and Research sections of the site. With experience of writing for the University of Hull, Sophie is passionate about creating and repurposing content for the web.
In her spare time, Sophie enjoys photography and pursuing her interest in creating and editing video. She also talks about Yorkshire – a lot!

Kelvin

Kelvin – Web Developer

Applied Computing Science graduate Kelvin has worked on Guardian award-winning student paper Concrete, and did a short stint as a consumer journalist which led to an 18 month aversion to games consoles. Something the rest of the team here are helping him through.

Joining the School of Management here as their Web Officer, Kelvin has been a Software Developer for the University of Bath for ages. Despite working with Java, Hibernate, Spring, Struts2, PHP, JavaScript and other web tech on an Ubuntu box – he still loves his MacBook (most of the time), and is currently interested in HTML5 and iPhone/Android development.

tom

Tom – Web Developer

He found his calling on the web some years ago but not before exercising his creative talents by working in marketing. This, combined with a strong scientific background, means Tom is a logical thinker with an eye for detail.

Since joining us, Tom has enjoyed involvement in a huge variety of projects from video publishing to site search as well as helping to win a European Excellence Award. It’s not all work though, he likes to chill out by jazzing it up on his saxophone.

Chris

Chris – Web Supporter

Chris is our Web Supporter who looks after all support requests that come into the Web Services department.

After a few years working in travel, he decided on a change of career and studied a degree part time whilst working in a full time role. After a stint working in a support role for Wiltshire Police he joined the team in September 2011.

In his spare time he likes walking his 2 dogs and working as a Special Constable trudging the streets of Trowbridge.
