The Digital and Academic Skills Team (DAS), Skills Centre, is pleased to share the success of the new Postgraduate Project Management Course.<\/p>\n

At the Skills Centre, we are proud to embed employability in our provision, and this year we trialled an exciting, new Project Management course with great success. DAS Postgraduate Course Leaders, Clea McDonald and Leah McCue, developed the course with aims to\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026 give students the opportunity to get hands-on practice with Project Management tools and to support the development of academic and professional identities of our PGT students. Further to this, we wanted to highlight the transferability of these skills to the workplace and embed accessibility, inclusivity, and sustainability throughout the provision.\u201d \u2013 Clea McDonald<\/p>\n

The inspiration for the course came after the invitation to participate in a postgraduate Life Sciences Project Management session last autumn. The students in the session were extremely engaged and clear on the transferability of these skills to their studies. From this, the idea for the course was born with an intention to offer the provision more widely.<\/p>\n

The Project Management flipped course was offered to three cohorts of campus based PGT students over the course of Semester 2. Prior to an in-person workshop, students completed a short, self-access learning module to identify challenges of Project Management and explore tools and techniques to surmount these challenges. The students then joined their peers in a workshop to apply their knowledge to a bespoke Project Management scenario related to their area of study.<\/p>\n

The project was very well received by students with overwhelmingly positive session feedback and strong engagement. Confidence surveys reflected substantial growth in confidence from the beginning to the end of the workshop. Student groups also demonstrated how they could apply these skills in the workplace and were keen to apply them to academic projects, such as their dissertation.<\/p>\n

Due to the positive project trial, the DAS Team will be running the programme as part of regular provision for the upcoming academic year. It is available to campus based PGT programmes, with a view to roll it out more widely in the future.
