If done well, it\u00a0makes the reader want to learn more about your research.<\/p>\n<p>These are the basic components of an abstract in any discipline:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1) Motivation\/problem statement:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Why do we care about the problem? What\u00a0practical, scientific, theoretical or artistic gap is your research filling?<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) Methods\/procedure\/approach:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What did you actually do to get your results? (e.g. analysed 3 novels, completed a series of 5 oil paintings, interviewed 17 students)<\/p>\n<p><strong>3) Results\/findings\/product:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a result of completing the above procedure,\u00a0what did you learn\/invent\/create\/solve\/discover\/reveal? (especially for the problem\/gap identified in step 1?)<\/p>\n<p><strong>4) Conclusion\/implications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What are the larger implications of your findings?<\/p>\n<p>It is important to note that the weight accorded to the different components can vary by discipline.
