Develop your writing skills<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/unihub.bath.ac.uk\/students\/infopages\/detail\/154\">1:1 writing tutorials<\/a> are available over the summer for you to discuss any aspect of writing and get personalised feedback from an expert writing tutor. Find out how the writing tutorials helped our student Skills Co-Creators in <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/academic-and-employability-skills\/?s=writing+tutorials\">these blogs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Take some time over the summer to digest the feedback you've received on your assignments over the past year. This will help you to understand the grades you've been given and how to improve in the future. You can also find some general tips on <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/academic-and-employability-skills\/2021\/08\/09\/stay-focused-on-your-studies-this-summer\/\">how to stay focused on your studies over the summer vacation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Our Digital &amp; Academic Skills team has also developed a range of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bath.ac.uk\/guides\/online-academic-skills-resources\/\">online academic skills short courses<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/academic-skills\/2019\/09\/25\/recommended-academic-skills-resource\/\">Academic Skills Handbook<\/a> is a really useful go-to guide to build your confidence and help you get ahead with your studies.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Become an ethical scholar<\/h2>\n<p>It may be a while since you took the University\u2019s mandatory Academic Integrity Initiative Test, so now is the perfect time to remind yourself about the important rules of referencing and how to avoid plagiarism.<\/p>\n<p>Read our <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/academic-skills\/2020\/06\/02\/academic-integrity-how-to-be-an-ethical-scholar\/\">blog on how to be an ethical scholar<\/a>, work through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skillsforstudy.com\/course-modules\">Skills for Study e-learning modules<\/a> on 'Referencing and Understanding Plagiarism', 'Critical Thinking' and 'Reading and Note-making' and look at the Cite them Right referencing database to help you give proper credit to any sources used in your work.<\/p>\n<h2>4. Boost your group working skills<\/h2>\n<p>Team-working is a fundamental skill at University and in the workplace. They also have a large variety of resources to learn German from beginners to advanced level.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Arabic<\/strong>: check out these useful resources: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbury.com\/uk\/mastering-arabic-1-9781137380449\/\">Mastering Arabic 1<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/arabicreadingcourse.com\">Online Arabic Reading Course - Learn the Arabic Alphabet<\/a> - a free online course that teaches you the letters of the Arabic alphabet and lets you practise reading simple words in the Arabic alphabet, <a href=\"https:\/\/langmedia.fivecolleges.edu\/topic-list\/25\">LangMedia - Formal spoken Arabic dialogues<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Portuguese<\/strong>: listening to music and podcasts and watching films are great, fun and motivational ways to learn or improve a language. With the <a href=\"https:\/\/lyricstraining.com\/app?nr=1&amp;~channel=web&amp;~feature=redirect&amp;~campaign=none&amp;ref=https%3A%2F%2Flyricstraining.com%2Fpt%2Fplay%2Fmelim%2Fmenina-de-rua%2FHymUHg2oay%23b7w\">LyricsTraining app<\/a> you can watch music videos with Portuguese subtitles and type the missing words in the gaps. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.portuguesepod101.com\/\">Portuguesepod101.com<\/a> teaches Brazilian Portuguese through podcasts, lesson notes and flashcards to test new vocabulary. Take a look at this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/gb\/browse\/genre\/100373\">list of Brazilian movies available on Netflix<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By learning another language you\u2019ll develop all-important intercultural skills too. Improve your English language skills<\/h2>\n<p>If English is your second language, the British Council's <a href=\"https:\/\/learnenglish.britishcouncil.org\/\">LearnEnglish<\/a> website provides many interactive resources to help improve your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. The <a href=\"https:\/\/learnenglish.britishcouncil.org\/english-grammar-reference\">grammar<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/learnenglish.britishcouncil.org\/vocabulary\">vocabulary<\/a> sections, aimed at learners of all levels, will help you build your overall confidence in using everyday English.<\/p>\n<p>Before you sign up for our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bath.ac.uk\/campaigns\/english-language\/\">English language course<\/a>\u00a0this autumn, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridgeenglish.org\/learning-english\/index.htm\">Cambridge Assessment Learning English<\/a> website offers lots of free activities to help you practise your English and free materials to help you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridgeenglish.org\/learning-english\/exam-preparation\/\">prepare for the Cambridge English exams<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>7. Brush up your digital skills<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bath.ac.uk\/campaigns\/your-digital-skills-and-capabilities\/\">Digital skills<\/a> are essential to live, learn, work and thrive in today\u2019s digital society. To get the most out of your learning and help prepare you for your future work, the University is encouraging all students to evaluate and develop their digital skills - you can access a range of <a href=\"https:\/\/unihub.bath.ac.uk\/students\/workflows\/detail\/62\">resources on MySkills<\/a> to get you started (for example these <a href=\"https:\/\/unihub.bath.ac.uk\/students\/infopages\/detail\/223\">Office 365 resources<\/a>) and read how two student Co-Creators are developing their digital skills in <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/academic-and-employability-skills\/?s=digital+skills\">these blogs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The University is the lead partner for the <a href=\"https:\/\/instituteofcoding.org\/\">Institute of Coding<\/a> (IOC) which offers lots of short, free courses on digital skills hosted on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futurelearn.com\/\">FutureLearn<\/a>, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.futurelearn.com\/courses\/collections\/digital-skills-workplace\">Digital skills for the workplace<\/a>\u00a0(several of these courses also feature in the Government\u2019s digital and numeracy <a href=\"https:\/\/theskillstoolkit.campaign.gov.uk\/\">Skills Toolkit<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.futurelearn.com\/courses\/collections\/creative-technologies\">A practical guide to essential creative technologies<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>FutureLearn also offers a wide range of free courses from other providers, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.futurelearn.com\/courses\/digital-wellbeing\">Digital wellbeing <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.futurelearn.com\/courses\/online-identity\">Managing your online identity<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The University of Bath is now part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bath.ac.uk\/announcements\/free-upgraded-access-to-futurelearn-campus-for-bath-staff-and-students\/\">FutureLearn Campus<\/a> which gives its students free, upgraded access to the courses of institutions who are part of the scheme.<\/p>\n<h2>8. Build your confidence with maths and statistics<\/h2>\n<p>Whether you find numeracy, maths, statistics and data a bit scary or whether you use these throughout your studies or research, there are specific skills you might invest time in. Enhance your employability skills<\/h2>\n<p>Take some time to reflect on the transferable employability skills you're currently developing through your course and other experiences at university and how you demonstrate these on your CV.
