The Horizon Report claims to be\u00a0\u201d<em>an unbiased source of  information that helps education leaders, trustees, policy makers, and  others easily understand the impact of key emerging technologies on  education, and when they are likely to enter mainstream use<\/em>.\u201d and has been flagging up the next big thing in technology-enhanced learning for nearly a decade.<\/p>\n<p>The<em> 2013 Higher Education Edition <\/em>identifies six technologies that are soon likely to be more widely adopted. These technologies\u00a0have been placed\u00a0into three <em>adoption horizons<\/em> to\u00a0indicate likely timeframes for their entrance into mainstream use  for\u00a0learning and teaching.\u00a0They are,\u00a0starting with the most imminent:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"MOOCs\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/app32\/2014\/03\/11\/moocs-what-why-and-how\/\" target=\"_blank\">Massively Open Online Courses (MOOCs)<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Mobile Technology<\/li>\n<li>Games and Gamification<\/li>\n<li>Learning Analytics<\/li>\n<li>3D Printing<\/li>\n<li>Wearable Technology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I'll take about each in turn in some forthcoming blog posts, but for now you can get the report at<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmc.org\/pdf\/2013-horizon-report-HE.pdf\">http:\/\/www.nmc.org\/pdf\/2013-horizon-report-HE.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The recently published NMC Horizon Report highlights some interesting technologies heading towards wider adoption over the next few years.
