{"id":318,"date":"2015-04-20T13:54:30","date_gmt":"2015-04-20T12:54:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/hpc\/?p=167"},"modified":"2020-03-27T08:44:23","modified_gmt":"2020-03-27T08:44:23","slug":"invitation-to-hpc-symposium-4th-june-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/arc\/2015\/04\/20\/invitation-to-hpc-symposium-4th-june-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Invitation to HPC Symposium 4th June 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear users of HPC facility,<\/p>\n<p>Following the success of previous meetings, we would like to announce<br \/>\nthe University of Bath's 4th HPC Symposium which will take place on<br \/>\nThursday 4th June (all day).<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the symposium is to provide a forum for current (and<br \/>\nprospective) users of the University's HPC service, currently Aquila,<br \/>\nwith news on acceptance testing for the new resource Balena, as well as<br \/>\nproviding an excellent opportunity to network and exchange ideas with<br \/>\ncolleagues. Hopefully the experience and the people you meet will help<br \/>\nyou with your own research in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The following activities are planned for the day:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We are delighted to announce that the keynote lecture will be<br \/>\ndelivered by Mark Chapman from the Bloodhound SSC project.<\/li>\n<li>Talks and posters by users of the HPC facility.<\/li>\n<li>Prizes will be given for the best contributions overall and from a<br \/>\nstudent.<\/li>\n<li>A buffet lunch will be provided along with after event refreshments<br \/>\nand lots of opportunities to network.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The meeting will be held in the Chancellor Building, Room CB2.6, further<br \/>\ndetails can be found on the webpage: <a href=\"http:\/\/go.bath.ac.uk\/hpc-symposium\">http:\/\/go.bath.ac.uk\/hpc-symposium<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Important dates<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>8th May: Abstract submission and naming competition deadline<\/li>\n<li>22nd May: Registration deadline<\/li>\n<li>4th June: HPC Symposium<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Registration<\/strong><br \/>\nThere is no registration fee, but we need to collect a list of attendees<br \/>\nand know numbers in advance to organise catering. If you are interested<br \/>\nin attending, please register by Friday 22rd May by completing the<br \/>\nregistration form at <a href=\"http:\/\/hpc-symposium-2015.eventbrite.co.uk\">http:\/\/hpc-symposium-2015.eventbrite.co.uk<\/a> and let<br \/>\nus know (<a href=\"mailto:hpc-symposium@bath.ac.uk\">hpc-symposium@bath.ac.uk<\/a>) if you have any special dietary<br \/>\nrequirements.<\/p>\n<p>NB: A separate announcement extending an invitation just to the keynote<br \/>\ntalk will be publicised shortly. If you are already registering for the<br \/>\nsymposium there is <em>NO<\/em> need to register for both.<br \/>\n<strong>Talks and posters<br \/>\n<\/strong>Contributions in the form of talks and posters are vital for the success<br \/>\nof the symposium and there will be prizes for the best contributions. If<br \/>\nyou are currently using the University's HPC facility for your research,<br \/>\nwe strongly encourage you to share your experiences with others at the<br \/>\nmeeting. You can also present your research if you are not currently<br \/>\nusing the HPC facility, but are working on a computationally intensive<br \/>\nproblem which might benefit from using HPC.<\/p>\n<p>The following topics will be covered (list not exhaustive)...<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HPC driven research in all disciplines<\/li>\n<li>Experiences with tools and libraries<\/li>\n<li>Parallel code development and scalability<\/li>\n<li>Algorithms<\/li>\n<li>Novel architectures: GPUs and Xeon Phi<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Contributed talks are scheduled to be 15 minutes (including questions).<\/p>\n<p>If you plan to present a talk or poster, please submit your abstract in<br \/>\nLaTeX or Microsoft Word format and send your .tex source file or the<br \/>\nword template in an email to hpc-symposium@bath.ac.uk by the abstract<br \/>\nsubmission deadline of Friday 8th May.
