{"id":14,"date":"2016-08-23T20:09:07","date_gmt":"2016-08-23T19:09:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/athenaswan\/?p=14"},"modified":"2016-08-23T20:26:03","modified_gmt":"2016-08-23T19:26:03","slug":"american-society-of-mechanical-engineers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/athenaswan\/2016\/08\/23\/american-society-of-mechanical-engineers\/","title":{"rendered":"American Society of Mechanical Engineers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, this week I am in Charlotte North Carolina for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asme.org\/events\/idetccie\">https:\/\/www.asme.org\/events\/idetccie<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So, you attend these conferences and in general listen to technical discussions about a particular aspect of Engineering - not the case here! \u00a0Research, teaching and equality go hand-in-hand.<\/p>\n<p>What you find is that many people are engaging in\u00a0the equivalent of SWAN activities, in particular how can you engage schoolchildren with STEM. So, on Sunday I was discussing a girl scout (Brownie age in the UK), Mechanical Engineering badge. Now I know in the UK we have Environment, Designer and Science Investigator badges - but wouldn't it be great to have an Engineering badge?
