{"id":106,"date":"2018-10-25T10:47:39","date_gmt":"2018-10-25T09:47:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/accommodation-hospitality\/?p=106"},"modified":"2018-10-25T10:49:12","modified_gmt":"2018-10-25T09:49:12","slug":"helping-hearts-in-the-local-area","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/campus-services\/2018\/10\/25\/helping-hearts-in-the-local-area\/","title":{"rendered":"Helping hearts in the local area"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You might have noticed the red British Heart Foundation banks dotted around campus and in town\u2026 hopefully you\u2019ve even used them to donate your unwanted stuff.<\/p>\n<p>But what happens after you leave your items in one of these banks?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/accommodation-hospitality\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/104\/2018\/10\/British-Heart-Foundation-bank-on-campus.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-108 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/accommodation-hospitality\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/104\/2018\/10\/British-Heart-Foundation-bank-on-campus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"462\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/campus-services\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/104\/2018\/10\/British-Heart-Foundation-bank-on-campus.jpg 651w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/campus-services\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/104\/2018\/10\/British-Heart-Foundation-bank-on-campus-227x300.jpg 227w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/campus-services\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/104\/2018\/10\/British-Heart-Foundation-bank-on-campus-163x215.jpg 163w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The British Heart Foundation then empties the banks and takes the contents to local charity shops to be sold.<\/p>\n<p>The charity estimates that the value of each bag of donated items is \u00a314.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the last academic year, University of Bath students donated 3,733 bags, which equates to a huge \u00a352,262.<\/p>\n<p>To give you an idea how this directly helps, the total would pay for one of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>9 months of funding for a scientist to help find a cure<\/li>\n<li>373 days\u2019 pay for a heart nurse<\/li>\n<li>Support for 149 young people suffering with heart disease<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Last year 2,517 bags were donated, so it\u2019s great to see an almost 50% increase.<\/p>\n<p>The money raised went towards helping the local area by funding:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>387 defibrillators<\/li>\n<li>CPR training for 87 establishments<\/li>\n<li>3 research grants<\/li>\n<li>1 Heartstart CPR training group<\/li>\n<li>17 British Heart Foundation charity shops<\/li>\n<li>124,332 heart health resources, such as leaflets and online advice for patients, families and carers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We look forward to hearing the impact that this year\u2019s donations makes on our local area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You might have noticed the red British Heart Foundation banks dotted around campus and in town\u2026 hopefully you\u2019ve even used them to donate your unwanted stuff.
