{"id":208,"date":"2020-01-31T14:34:55","date_gmt":"2020-01-31T14:34:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/accommodation-hospitality\/?p=208"},"modified":"2020-02-28T13:13:57","modified_gmt":"2020-02-28T13:13:57","slug":"whats-on-during-fairtrade-fortnight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/campus-services\/2020\/01\/31\/whats-on-during-fairtrade-fortnight\/","title":{"rendered":"What's on during Fairtrade Fortnight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019ve been a Fairtrade university since 2009, and are committed to using and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bath.ac.uk\/corporate-information\/ethical-and-responsible-food-sourcing\/\">promoting Fairtrade products<\/a>\u00a0in our food, drink and retail outlets across campus.<\/p>\n<p>Each year we celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight to highlight the positive impact of Fairtrade on communities around the world. This year's Fairtrade Fortnight will run from Monday 24 February through to Sunday 8 March, and will feature a range of giveaways, talks, tasting events and competitions for you to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>Remember to bring a reusable cup to all events, as we will not be giving out disposable cups - this is part of our ongoing efforts to reduce single-use waste.<\/p>\n<p>Find out more about each of our Fairtrade Fortnight events:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monday 24 February, 10.30am to 11.30am and 1.30pm to 3pm: <strong>Fairtrade Fortnight Launch, The Parade<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Celebrate the start of Fairtrade Fortnight, learn more about Fairtrade and enjoy free Fairtrade tea, coffee and hot chocolates. Visit the stand on the Parade, outside Claverton Rooms, to take part in our Fairtrade quiz, and find out how Fairtrade impacts the lives of producers around the world.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tuesday 25 February, all day: <strong>Fairtrade Giveaway, across campus<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Enjoy a free Fairtrade treat in selected outlets when you purchase a mocha or hot chocolate.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thursday 27 February, 11am to 2pm: <strong>Fairtrade Takeover, The Patch<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Taste free samples from Fairtrade and sustainable suppliers, learn more about shopping ethically, and have all of your questions on Fairtrade answered. Suppliers include Tony\u2019s Chocolonely, Flawsome Drinks, Essentials, Divine, Bidfood and Cotswold Fudge.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thursday 27 February, 2.45pm to 3.45pm: <strong>Tony's Chocolonely 'Slavery and Chocolate' Talk, 3E 3.5<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Shockingly, at least 30,000 people are victims of trafficking and are enslaved within the cocoa industry.\u00a0Learn how chocolatiers at Tony\u2019s Chocolonely are on a mission to make 100% slave-free the norm in chocolate. Visitors can enjoy a free Fairtrade hot drink and a free Tony\u2019s Chocolonely bar.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monday 2 March, 1pm to 2.45pm: <strong>Fairtrade Producer 'Women of Fairtrade' Talk, 3E 2.4<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We are delighted to welcome Gloria Mar\u00eda Talavera Gonz\u00e1lez, a Fairtrade producer from Nicaragua, for a talk about the difference Fairtrade has made to her life. Louise Whitaker, Group Sustainability Manager at Bewley\u2019s, will present on her visit to SOPPEXCCA giving particular focus to the role of women in coffee growing communities and the impact of economically-empowered women on community development. Barney Smyth, Partnership Manager at the Fairtrade Foundation will be presenting about this year\u2019s campaign, what makes the Fairtrade certification unique, and the impact that Fairtrade has had for different producer organisations in coffee growing regions across the world. Enjoy free Fairtrade hot drinks and cake as you listen to these inspiring speakers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tuesday 3 March, 12.30pm to 2.30pm:<strong>\u00a0Stories of Fairtrade, Bath Central Library\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Book your tickets <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/stories-of-fairtrade-registration-91292930613?aff=ebdssbdestsearch\">here<\/a> for this enlightening talk from experienced Fairtrade speakers. Claire Liboureau, Partnership Manager at Fairtrade, will be talking about the story of cocoa farmers so far and how, with the She Deserves campaign, Fairtrade is helping to create a new story.
