{"id":336,"date":"2020-12-18T10:42:58","date_gmt":"2020-12-18T10:42:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/accommodation-hospitality\/?p=336"},"modified":"2020-12-18T11:04:12","modified_gmt":"2020-12-18T11:04:12","slug":"bath-students-take-action-against-climate-change-with-student-switch-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/campus-services\/2020\/12\/18\/bath-students-take-action-against-climate-change-with-student-switch-off\/","title":{"rendered":"Bath students take action against climate change with Student Switch Off"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/studentswitchoff.org\/\">Student Switch Off<\/a> is an international not-for-profit campaign, delivered by NUS and designed to encourage students to take action on climate change.<\/p>\n<p>Student Switch Off runs energy-saving, water-saving and recycling competitions in University accommodation across the UK, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Lithuania and Romania. Over 25,000 students at 27 Universities have got involved this year.<\/p>\n<p>Here at Bath, students have been working hard to make a serious contribution to the cause:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1,290 students joined in with activities, with half of these pledging their support for the campaign.<\/li>\n<li>990 residents took our Climate Crisis Quiz, answering questions on the climate crisis, saving energy, recycling and social justice. 50 tubs of Ben &amp; Jerry's ice cream was awarded to Quads C for placing in the top 4 teams in the national quiz!<\/li>\n<li>14 residents attended our Volunteer Training Session and have received regular communications via our online group.<\/li>\n<li>8 volunteers have gained a Bronze Award, completing an audit of their accommodation and attending the meet up get together.<\/li>\n<li>284 entries have been made to our online competitions, which involved taking sustainability pledges, sharing advice and answering sustainability themed questions, with more Ben &amp; Jerry\u2019s ice cream given out as prizes.<\/li>\n<li>We have organised a number of learning opportunities, including a webinar discussing single-use plastic, and launching our \u2018Introduction to the Climate emergency\u2019 learning masterclass.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bath achieved the highest number of quiz entries nationally, and it was great to see our students getting so engaged with important climate change actions - as well as seeing Quads C win the 50 tubs of ice cream!<\/p>\n<p>You can view the full Student Switch Off leaderboard for each University of Bath accommodation block <a href=\"http:\/\/studentswitchoff.org\/unis\/university-of-bath\/leaderboard\/\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Student Switch Off is an international not-for-profit campaign, delivered by NUS and designed to encourage students to take action on climate change.
