{"id":527,"date":"2022-12-12T09:00:43","date_gmt":"2022-12-12T09:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/accommodation-hospitality\/?p=527"},"modified":"2022-12-02T16:58:12","modified_gmt":"2022-12-02T16:58:12","slug":"feed-four-for-5-how-to-cook-boston-beans-and-sausage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/campus-services\/2022\/12\/12\/feed-four-for-5-how-to-cook-boston-beans-and-sausage\/","title":{"rendered":"Feed four for \u00a35 - how to cook Boston beans and sausage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Boston Beans\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/765001229?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Our last recipe of 2022, this week is...<\/p>\n<h2>Boston beans and sausage<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><br \/>\n1 onion<br \/>\nTin of chopped or plum tomatoes<br \/>\nTin of mixed beans<br \/>\n8 vegan, vegetarian or meat sausages<br \/>\nSeasoning: tomato puree, sugar, vinegar, paprika and garlic<br \/>\nOptional:<br \/>\nStock cube<br \/>\nYou can add more vegetables such as peppers, courgettes, aubergines and carrots to your liking<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure your areas are clean and tidy and wash your hands before you start<\/li>\n<li>Peel and finely slice the onion. Remember to leave the core on the onion to minimise the affect of your eyes watering<\/li>\n<li>Finely chop or grate two cloves of garlic<\/li>\n<li>Vegetable or sunflower can be used<\/li>\n<li>Add a few table spoons of vegetable or sunflower oil to a pan<\/li>\n<li>Add crushed garlic, then onion, then sausages. Add any finely chopped vegetables at this point if you want to<\/li>\n<li>Caramelise the onion and brown the sausages for an even colour \u2013 10 minutes should be enough<\/li>\n<li>Add the seasoning of your choice: salt, pepper, chilli, paprika, any spices of your choice<\/li>\n<li>Add a couple of tablespoons of tomato puree, which will thicken the sauce and intensify the flavour<\/li>\n<li>Add the mixed beans<\/li>\n<li>Add tinned tomatoes and allow to reduce.\u00a0Plum tomatoes are usually cheaper than pre chopped, and you can always break them down with your cooking utensil<\/li>\n<li>Add two tablespoons of vinegar<\/li>\n<li>Crumble in a stock cube of your choice (vegetable or chicken) depending on your choice of sausage<\/li>\n<li>For an extra sticky finish you can add a spoon of sugar, syrup or honey<\/li>\n<li>Serve with mashed potato, a side of vegetables or in a jacket potato.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our last recipe of 2022, this week is...
