First of all, welcome to the University of Bath and I hope you will have an excellent Autumn exploring the beautiful city of Bath and its countryside. Below are some careers tips for new international students here at Bath.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Get involved\u00a0whilst a student<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Take advantage of what you can get involved whilst a student at the University.\u00a0See if there are any societies<\/a> you can join and have a look at SU international<\/a> pages, take up a volunteering opportunity<\/a> or think about getting a part-time job.<\/a> International and UK employers like to see that you have been involved in extra \u2013 curricular activities whilst a student, as this improves your language and cultural awareness skills, in addition to giving you lots of transferable skills, such as teamwork and communication. It also looks great on a CV!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Learn and understand UK recruitment processes<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

The recruitment timeline\u00a0and process\u00a0may be a bit different\u00a0here in the UK than what you are used to from back at home. Top tip is that if you are looking for work in big multi-national companies, you will need to start looking now as these job opportunities, mostly called graduate programmes or schemes, have already opened and many have deadlines in October.\u00a0Not sure what a graduate scheme is? Explore and research visa options<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

There are several visa options for you when you graduate, the two\u00a0most commonly used\u00a0are the new visa options Skilled Worker visa<\/a> and Graduate Route visa.<\/a>\u00a0Make sure to research these visas so you are aware of what the differences\u00a0are\u00a0and which one may be the best option for you. Our Job Search guide\u00a0<\/a>gives you some tips in how you can find out if an employer is a Skilled worker sponsor. Our International students guide<\/a> have further resources for your\u00a0 to explore and make sure to visit the Student Immigration Service<\/a> for specific support and advice. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Attend our events<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

We offer different events throughout the Autumn both for international students wanting to work in the UK and go home to their own home country. Keep an eye out for events tailored to international students such as graduate job hunting in the UK and \/ or the Global Careers Insight series. We also termly have Working After Studies visa options talks delivered by our knowledgeable colleagues in the Student Immigration Service. In addition, we also have lots of events on writing job applications, CVs, interview skills and more, explore MyFuture events<\/a> and see what you can book on to!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Come and speak to an\u00a0Adviser<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Are you unsure of what to do next or you need support finding job opportunities or researching employers? Do you need help with writing a CV?\u00a0 In addition to exploring\u00a0MyFuture\u00a0resources<\/a>, come and speak to one of our advisers\u00a0by booking an appointment<\/a> through\u00a0MyFuture, whether that is face to face, remote or\u00a0by\u00a0 telephone. We are here to support you!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Final tip - take care of yourself and your own wellbeing<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Taking care of your wellbeing<\/a> is also very important, so ensure that you take care of yourself as well as prioritising your academic study.\u00a0 Starting a new course in a new country can be overwhelming (I have been there myself!), therefore starting lots of activities all at once may not be the best first step for you.
