Last month, I completed a Micro Internship working on social value at Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, for their CP7 Western and Wales contract with Network Rail. Specifically, I was assigned to the Tackley development in North Oxfordshire, where Morgan Sindall are replacing the temporary scaffold bridge with a permanent, accessible steel footbridge featuring lifts. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Stakeholder mapping<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/careers\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/82\/2026\/02\/Morgan-Sindell-quadrants.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3042 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/careers\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/82\/2026\/02\/Morgan-Sindell-quadrants-300x118.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"118\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/careers\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/82\/2026\/02\/Morgan-Sindell-quadrants-300x118.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/careers\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/82\/2026\/02\/Morgan-Sindell-quadrants-547x215.png 547w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/careers\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/82\/2026\/02\/Morgan-Sindell-quadrants.png 605w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The first section of my project involved\u00a0identifying\u00a0the complex network of individuals and organisations\u00a0interested in, or affected by,\u00a0the Tackley development.\u00a0By\u00a0allocating\u00a0the correct quadrant for each stakeholder on the matrix (see above),\u00a0engagement resources\u00a0could\u00a0be\u00a0allocated\u00a0effectively.\u00a0Key groups\u00a0included:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">project clients and regulators <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">train companies operating through Tackley railway station<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">community stakeholders such as local government, nearby residents and special interest groups<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Community analysis<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I conducted an in-depth community analysis,\u00a0using the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yemetech.com\/cdp\">Yemetech\u00a0Community Data<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ocsi.uk\/products\/local-insight\/\">OCSI Local Insight<\/a> platforms, which helped me to understand the underlying socio-economic characteristics of Tackley and its surrounding area. The village has an Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) score of 24,000, placing it in the 8<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0decile\u00a0within the\u00a0UK. Drafting comprehensive delivery plans within the practical site constraints improved my project management skills.\u00a0I found that working both inductively and deductively is vital for high impact social value delivery. In doing so, I applied top-down frameworks such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialvalueportal.com\/measurement\">National Themes Outcomes and Measurements<\/a> (TOMs)\u00a0while also considering\u00a0raw community data.\u00a0Furthermore,\u00a0I learnt about\u00a0challenging\u00a0aspects of applying social value to construction, such as\u00a0the difficulty of accurately measuring and recording\u00a0impact\u00a0accrued.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Thank you to Scarlett Watts for her support and guidance throughout the Micro Internship, and to Elizabeth Childs for setting up the opportunity.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi, I'm Jay.
