Hi, I'm Lily. As the inter-semester break faded and that familiar \u201cfirst Monday back\u201d rolled around, it suddenly hit me: this is my last ever first day of a semester. For many of my friends, it\u2019s the same. After having such a wonderful time at university, challenges and all, it\u2019s made me determined to squeeze every last drop of value out of these final months and make the most of everything the University of Bath offers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So,\u00a0here\u2019s\u00a0a list of things\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0done, things I wish\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0done sooner, and things that might be perfect for you even if they\u00a0weren\u2019t\u00a0on my radar.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Make use of MASH<\/h3>\n

Not every degree needs MASH, but\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0be honest: I\u00a0definitely\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0use it enough. Now that\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0deep into my Master\u2019s Chemistry research project,\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0found myself staring at piles of data with no idea where to begin.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0what finally pushed me to visit the Skills Zone in 3E 2.8 for a Project Statistics drop\u2011in last week, and it was incredibly helpful.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If\u00a0you\u2019ve\u00a0been putting it off, learn from me. MASH is there to make your life easier, and I only wish\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0gone sooner.<\/span> More information about the drop-ins and support available from MASH is in MySkills here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ask more questions!<\/h3>\n

It sounds obvious, but\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0so easy to forget that\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0surrounded by people who are experts in their fields. You get to learn from them directly, and\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0a privilege that\u00a0won\u2019t\u00a0last forever.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So\u00a0ask the question. Even the ones you think are \u201cstupid.\u201d\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0never regretted asking, even if I still preface everything with, \u201cThis might be a silly question, but\u2026\u201d\u00a0You\u2019re\u00a0here to learn, and your lecturers genuinely want to help.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Explore Skills for Success<\/h3>\n

As someone who works for the Skills Centre, I had a slightly embarrassing realisation when I started my role:\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0made it three years into my four-year degree without fully appreciating just how much support\u00a0MySkills\u00a0offers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There are self-access resources, workshops, a blog, 1:1 tutorials, and email feedback on writing up to 3,000 words. With project work taking over most of our lives right now, having unlimited access to this kind of support is invaluable.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Revisit your feedback<\/h3>\n

One thing\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0found surprisingly helpful this semester is going back through feedback from previous years. When\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0working on a big project or dissertation, patterns you\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0notice before suddenly stand out -\u00a0maybe you\u00a0tend to rush conclusions, or your structure slips when\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0stressed, or you forget to explain your reasoning clearly. Using old feedback as a checklist has made my current work feel much more manageable, and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0a great way\u00a0to make sure\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0actually applying\u00a0everything\u00a0you\u2019ve\u00a0learned along the way.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Enjoy it!<\/h3>\n

A friend and I were recently talking about how strange it feels to know\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0in the final months of a time\u00a0we\u2019ll\u00a0probably always\u00a0wish we could relive. Yes,\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0excited to escape the endless Chemistry exams, but\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0also trying to savour every moment before\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0officially an \u201cadult.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Whether\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0SU events\u00a0you\u2019ve\u00a0always meant to try, societies you love, or simply spending more time with the people\u00a0who\u2019ve\u00a0shaped your university experience, lean into it. These months will fly by, and you deserve to enjoy them.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>I guess\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0everything\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0trying to remind myself of as we head into the final stretch.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a weird mix of panic and\u00a0excitement, but\u00a0making the most of\u00a0what\u2019s\u00a0still in front of us feels like a good place to start.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
