I really enjoyed reading Nipuni Perera\u2019s blog post<\/a> on attending the One Young World Summit <\/a>in Dublin which inspired me to shine a light on the breadth of job opportunities available to graduates within the International Development sector.<\/p>\n

International development is about engaging with economically disadvantaged regions in the world to empower people to improve their lives and address poverty. The sector is diverse and offers opportunities in governance, policy, healthcare, finance, campaigning, disaster preparedness, education and much more! Broadly speaking organisations involved in international development can be grouped into:<\/p>\n

  1. Government Organisations<\/strong> such as The UK\u2019s Department for International Development (DFID).<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. Multilateral Organisations<\/strong> such as the United Nations<\/a><\/li>\n
  3. Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO\u2019s)<\/strong> such as BOND<\/a> (British Overseas NGO\u2019s for Development) or\u00a0Oxfam.<\/a><\/li>\n
  4. Academic Organisations & Research Institutes<\/strong> such as the Overseas Development Institute<\/a> (ODI)<\/li>\n
  5. Consultancies<\/strong> such as WYG<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
