Be aware of the impact key political issues may have on the markets: If the Bank of England increases interest rates, what impact will this have on the markets?\u00a0Bankers read the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/home\/uk\" target=\"_blank\"> Financial Times<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thegatewayonline.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Gateway Newspaper<\/a>. Both are\u00a0a great way of finding this information in an easy to understand format.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be open minded:<\/strong><em> \"Front office\"\u00a0<\/em>roles in an Investment Bank are highly competitive. Why not consider other roles such as Risk and Operations for example? They offer excellent career advancement, opportunities to travel and in some cases a better work life balance. If you aren't sure of the different roles within Investment Banking, do read this excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insidecareers.co.uk\/career-advice\/investment-banking\/\" target=\"_blank\">guide<\/a> produced by Inside Careers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Take advantage of diversity schemes:<\/strong> Banks like all forward thinking employers recognise the value of diverse teams. Look our for schemes for those with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gettinginvestmentbanking.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">disabilities<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/targetjobsevents.co.uk\/women-in-investment-banking\" target=\"_blank\">women<\/a> and under represented <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seo-london.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">ethnic<\/a> groups.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Get application savvy:<\/strong>\u00a0Several banks including Barclays and Nomura ask applicants\u00a0to submit a CV along with their investment bank application form. Other finance firms, including Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs, require a covering letter as well. Almost without exception, your CV needs to be 1-page long!\u00a0Since competition for these graduate roles is fierce, with the industry having seen highs of 141 applications per position, it\u2019s key you get your CV and covering letter <a href=\"https:\/\/targetjobs.co.uk\/career-sectors\/investment-banking-and-investment\/388424-compare-your-investment-banking-graduate-cv-to-the-competition\" target=\"_blank\">right.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Talk to people in the business:<\/strong> Seek out opportunities to speak to, and develop relationships with, people working in the sector, for example, by attending employer <a href=\"https:\/\/myfuture.bath.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">presentations<\/a> on campus.
