New research from the New College of the Humanities has revealed that recruiters on average make their minds up in less than 60 seconds.\u00a0The findings came after researchers interviewed over 860 recruiters, with 20 per cent said they discard a CV before getting to the end, while on average they spend an average of just three minutes and 14 seconds looking over an application.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"irc_rii\" src=\"https:\/\/encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSpcO48tzm34L8o9aUu9co3Im-o3E8l8ofAYtbpiUoLoQaIAPa6ew\" alt=\"Related image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The research also looked at the biggest employer gripes with a CV, with the biggest being spelling mistakes\u00a0and grammatical errors, followed by a too casual tone including using terms such as \u2018you guys\u2019 or signing off with \u2018cheers\u2019.\u00a0Other turn off\u2019s including using jargon and clich\u00e9d quotes, such as using \u2018perfectionism as a weakness, and having a CV over two pages long.<\/p>\n<p>These are the top 10 phrases on CV's that enrage employers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\"I'm a hard worker\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"I work well under pressure\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"I can work independently\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"I'm a team player\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"I am a problem solver\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"Good communicator\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"I'm proactive\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"I am a good listener\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"I'm enthusiastic\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"Excellent written communication skills\"<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If any of these phrases appear on your CV and you are not sure how to convey your skills; then book a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bath.ac.uk\/students\/careers\/one-to-one\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">drop-in <\/a>with one of our careers advisers.
