{"id":326,"date":"2025-07-29T14:08:07","date_gmt":"2025-07-29T13:08:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/civic-engagement\/?p=326"},"modified":"2025-07-29T14:08:07","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T13:08:07","slug":"global-talent-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/civic-engagement\/2025\/07\/29\/global-talent-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"Why the Global Talent Fund is a major boost for our area"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"130\" data-end=\"283\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">The University of Bath has been awarded <strong data-start=\"40\" data-end=\"57\">\u00a34.35 million<\/strong> from the UK Government\u2019s \u00a354 million <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bath.ac.uk\/campaigns\/global-talent-fund\/\"><strong data-start=\"95\" data-end=\"117\">Global Talent Fund<\/strong><\/a> to recruit up to 15 world\u2011leading international researchers and their teams in four strategic areas: <strong data-start=\"219\" data-end=\"321\" data-is-last-node=\"\">clean energy industries, digital technologies, life sciences, and professional &amp; business services<\/strong><\/span>. <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">This five\u2011year investment begins in the 2025\u201326 academic year<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"285\" data-end=\"322\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">For our local community, this means:<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"324\" data-end=\"933\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">\u2022 <strong data-start=\"2\" data-end=\"41\">Accelerated research in key sectors<\/strong> - These hires will bolster Bath\u2019s research capacity in high\u2011priority industrial strategy areas, driving innovation and international collaborations that benefit the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">\u2022 <strong data-start=\"2\" data-end=\"49\">Development of new technologies &amp; spin\u2011outs<\/strong> - As seen from SETsquared Bath, where past academic enterprise has led to high\u2011growth startups, these new researchers have the potential to deepen connections between campus and business, generating spin\u2011out companies and fresh economic activity<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">\u2022 <strong data-start=\"2\" data-end=\"36\">Economic impact &amp; job creation<\/strong> -\u00a0 Already, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bath.ac.uk\/announcements\/university-of-bath-generates-over-half-a-billion-pounds-for-local-economy-new-report\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">University supports 7,000+ jobs locally<\/a> and contributes over \u00a3510 million in GVA across Bath &amp; North East Somerset<\/span>. This new funding will amplify that effect, creating roles in research, which could lead to employment created in tech transfer, professional services, and more.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong data-start=\"647\" data-end=\"680\">Putting the region on the map<\/strong> \u2013 With world-class expertise pouring in across clean energy, life sciences, digital and business services, Bath, Bristol, and the South West will gain visibility as a hub of innovation and research excellence - further attracting investment, partnerships and talent.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"935\" data-end=\"1206\">This is more than grant funding\u2014it\u2019s a catalyst for research-led growth.
