Last week marked an exciting step as the inaugural meeting of our new Decolonising Learning & Teaching Community of Practice <\/em>took place. Around 25 staff members, each bringing enthusiasm and fresh perspectives from a wide range of departments and professional services, came together to share their motivations and aspirations for this important work.<\/p>\n

The group\u2019s aim is to create a cross-university space where colleagues can connect, learn, and exchange ideas. This first meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the significance of decolonising education, including its role in supporting the University\u2019s application for the Race Equality Charter<\/a>. We also heard examples of existing activity, such as the work of\u00a0DECkNO<\/a>, and approaches being taken by teaching staff in PoLIS.<\/p>\n

It was inspiring to see how staff are already engaging with decolonising principles in their own areas\u2014rethinking curricula, addressing systemic inequalities, and fostering more inclusive learning environments. Together, we gathered ideas about how the Community of Practice can evolve into a supportive, resourcing space for all members. From workshops to shared resources and peer support, the possibilities are exciting.<\/p>\n

This is just the beginning. We\u2019ll be meeting again in Semester 2, and the invitation is open to anyone interested in exploring how we can collectively embed decolonising practices in our teaching and learning. Whether you\u2019re new to the conversation or already deeply engaged, there\u2019s a place for you in this growing community.<\/p>\n
