But are we lone travellers stepping out into an unknown land? The answer, of course, is no. Across the sector, similar journeys have been and are taking place, and now there is a new map to guide us: at the end of November 2018 the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) released its updated <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qaa.ac.uk\/quality-code\/advice-and-guidance\">Advice and Guidance<\/a> for Higher Education providers.<\/p>\n<p>The Advice and Guidance was developed in partnership with the Higher Education sector and is grouped according to 12 themes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-470 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/clt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/2018\/12\/CT-image_good-quality-1-240x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"409\" height=\"511\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/clt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/2018\/12\/CT-image_good-quality-1-240x300.png 240w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/clt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/2018\/12\/CT-image_good-quality-1-172x215.png 172w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/clt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/2018\/12\/CT-image_good-quality-1.png 528w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Each theme has a collection of clear principles, many of which are closely connected with our own phased activity engaging with the Principles of Curriculum Transformation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-458 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/clt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/2018\/12\/ct2-135x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"234\" height=\"520\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/clt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/2018\/12\/ct2-135x300.png 135w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/clt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/2018\/12\/ct2-97x215.png 97w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/clt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/2018\/12\/ct2.png 367w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 234px) 100vw, 234px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If we consider the QAA theme of \u2018course design and development\u2019, for instance, we can see clear alignment with Phase 1 of Curriculum Transformation (the consultation and reflection activity that the majority of undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses are currently engaged in):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Course design can be informed by feedback from a range of sources and reflect multidisciplinary research, contemporary industry practice, technological advancements and current affairs<\/em><em>.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Feedback from internal and external stakeholders is used to inform course content.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Providers should engage students in design, development and approval processes to ensure the student voice is actively represented <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We\u2019ll talk more about the symbiosis between our principles and the QAA themes and what this means for our University in the New Year. For now, the guiding principles, practical advice, and further resources offered by the QAA are designed to support providers in meeting the mandatory requirements of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qaa.ac.uk\/quality-code\">Quality Code<\/a> \u2013 and assures us we\u2019re very much on the right path.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Curriculum Development Team (Rob, Jo, Briony, Karen, Abby, and Dawn)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Themes and principles: familiar language and guiding lights for those now immersed in the Curriculum Transformation process.
