{"id":626,"date":"2019-08-15T08:15:42","date_gmt":"2019-08-15T07:15:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/clt\/?p=626"},"modified":"2019-08-14T15:25:43","modified_gmt":"2019-08-14T14:25:43","slug":"from-vision-to-practice-getting-underway-with-phases-2-and-3-of-curriculum-transformation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/clt\/2019\/08\/15\/from-vision-to-practice-getting-underway-with-phases-2-and-3-of-curriculum-transformation\/","title":{"rendered":"From vision to practice: getting underway with Phases 2 and 3 of Curriculum Transformation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The second\u00a0and third\u00a0phases\u00a0of <a href=\"https:\/\/teachinghub.bath.ac.uk\/curriculum-transformation\/\">Curriculum Transformation<\/a> focus\u00a0directly on supporting the activity of course development teams, alongside other stakeholders, in the design and development of their course proposals.<br \/>\nFollowing the finalisation of Phase 1 activity,\u00a0a number of\u00a0departments have\u00a0started Phase 2 activity, working towards making\u00a0their newly refreshed course vision a reality.<\/p>\n<p>Departments are supported in getting underway through a C<i>o<\/i><i>urse Review and Design Workshop<\/i>.<i>\u00a0<\/i>Designed and facilitated by the Centre for Learning &amp; Teaching, this equips\u00a0teams to move towards tangible course design, identifying the key features that will underpin learning, teaching, and assessment.<br \/>\nFeedback from staff who have been involved thus far has\u00a0been highly positive about the\u00a0value of these sessions:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><i style=\"color: #003366\">\u2018<\/i><i style=\"color: #003366\">I<\/i><i style=\"color: #003366\">t was an excellent session, really helpful and informative, with space and time to think and discuss tangible outcomes and goals. We really appreciated the time to think creativel<\/i><i style=\"color: #003366\">y about our students\u2019 learning\u2019<\/i><span style=\"color: #003366\">\u00a0(Course Development Team lead in the Faculty of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #003366\">Humanities and Social Sciences<\/span><span style=\"color: #003366\">).<\/span><span style=\"color: #003366\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Staff from the Curriculum Development Office work closely with departments to ensure that workshop content is aligned to the specific needs of each course. Again, staff\u00a0feedback has remarked on the importance of this to their development activity:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><span style=\"color: #003366\"><i>\u2018<\/i><i>The Curriculum Development team from the CLT facilitated in a way that allowed us to develop a common understanding of the graduate attributes and key course concepts that all of our students should acquire by the end of their course<\/i><i>\u2019<\/i>\u00a0(Course Development Team lead in the Faculty of Science).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Emphasising the importance of the course-wide approach that shapes Phase 2 activity, the academic lead for a suite of postgraduate courses in the School of Management reflected that:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><span style=\"color: #003366\"><i>\u2018<\/i><i>The workshops have enabled us to think collectively about the overall course design and how this may impact on unit delivery, so that we can deliver a more cohesive learning experience.<\/i><i>\u2019<\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>After the workshop a series of next steps are agreed, and course teams continue to receive support from the Centre for Learning and Teaching.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>\u2018<\/i><i>Since the workshop, I have had very positive and fruitful conversations with colleagues who enjoyed the session and who feel further inspired to work together to create a course that really will be transformed for the better.
