{"id":119,"date":"2022-10-20T15:23:47","date_gmt":"2022-10-20T14:23:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/council-digest\/?p=119"},"modified":"2022-10-20T15:23:47","modified_gmt":"2022-10-20T14:23:47","slug":"weekly-digest-20-10-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/council-digest\/2022\/10\/20\/weekly-digest-20-10-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Weekly Digest 20.10.2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>OfS updates<\/h2>\n<p>The \u201cbalance\u201d of online and in-person teaching is not a \u201ckey [determinant] of teaching quality\u201d, according to an Office for Students (OfS) commissioned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.officeforstudents.org.uk\/news-blog-and-events\/press-and-media\/ofs-responds-to-blended-learning-review\/\">review<\/a> of blended learning. \u00a0OfS has published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.officeforstudents.org.uk\/publications\/blended-learning-and-ofs-regulation\/\">report<\/a> responding to the review which sets out how different approaches to blended learning relates to their regulatory requirements.<\/p>\n<p>OfS has published a set of new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.officeforstudents.org.uk\/about\/operational-measures\/\">operational measures<\/a> which will report on the performance of their core regulatory activity.<\/p>\n<h2>Finance and funding<\/h2>\n<p>Graduate salaries are on average down 7.3 per cent in real terms, according to new <a href=\"https:\/\/ise.org.uk\/general\/custom.asp?page=ise-recruitment-survey-22\">research<\/a> from the Institute of Student Employers into the graduate labour market.<\/p>\n<p>The Leverhulme Trust has made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebritishacademy.ac.uk\/news\/leverhulme-british-academy-and-the-council-for-at-risk-academics-announce-new-partnership-to-support-academics-fleeing-conflict\/\">\u00a31 million available for researchers at risk<\/a> across the world who are currently supported by The British Academy\u2019s Researchers at Risk programme or through the Council for At-Risk Academics. As part of the announcement, The British Academy\u2019s chief executive Hetan Shah noted that 87 Ukrainian researchers have so far been placed at universities across the UK.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/education\/2022\/oct\/16\/rapper-aj-tracey-launches-fund-to-help-black-students-at-oxford-university\">The Guardian<\/a> covers the announcement by rapper AJ Tracey of a new fund to support young black students to study at University of Oxford.<\/p>\n<h2>Rankings<\/h2>\n<p>The International Network of Research Management Societies (INORMS) has launched a new initiative named <a href=\"https:\/\/inorms.net\/more-than-our-rank\/\">More than Our Rank<\/a>, encouraging providers to highlight the contributions they make which are not reflected in league tables and university rankings.<\/p>\n<h2>Student Welfare<\/h2>\n<p>Wonkhe and Pearson launch a <a href=\"https:\/\/wonkhe.com\/blogs\/the-four-foundations-of-belonging-at-university\/?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=Wonkhe%20Mondays%20-%2017%20October&amp;utm_content=Wonkhe%20Mondays%20-%2017%20October+CID_2c0d9a27d3c096a2eb55248facefcee6&amp;utm_source=Email%20marketing%20software&amp;utm_term=The%20four%20foundations%20of%20belonging%20at%20university%20%20read%20our%20full%20report%20and%20article%20to%20introduce%20it%20here\">report<\/a> nearly a week and The Metro has a <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2022\/10\/17\/oxford-university-students-rent-strike-over-cockroach-infestation-17582040\/?ito=newsnow-feed\">story<\/a> about students at the University of Oxford who are staging a rent strike after finding cockroaches in kitchens and bedrooms.<\/p>\n<h2>Industrial action<\/h2>\n<p>Staff at Falmouth University will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.com\/news\/falmouth-staff-strike-over-two-tier-hiring-rules?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=editorial-daily&amp;spMailingID=22127277&amp;spUserID=MTAzMDM1OTQ2MjMyMAS2&amp;spJobID=2093052866&amp;spReportId=MjA5MzA1Mjg2NgS2\">go on strike<\/a> in opposition to the introduction of a \u201ctwo-tier workforce\u201d, which has seen new academic staff employed on \u201cworse terms and conditions\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2>International href=\"https:\/\/www.britishcouncil.org\/education\/he-science\/knowledge-centre\/transnational-education\/value-transnational-education\">report<\/a> on the value of transnational education.
