Digest 02\/03\/2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>NEWS<\/h2>\n<h2>Research<\/h2>\n<p>The UK Committee on Research Integrity (UKCORI) has published its <a href=\"https:\/\/ukcori.org\/2023\/02\/23\/uk-committee-on-research-integrity-announces-strategy\/\">2023-25 strategy<\/a> and plan of forthcoming activities, including an annual statement on research integrity in the UK and a review of institutions\u2019 research integrity statements.<\/p>\n<p>The Russell Group, University Alliance, and Universities UK International (UUKi) have issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.russellgroup.ac.uk\/news\/rd-sector-urges-rapid-progress-on-uk-association-to-eu-programmes\/\">joint statement<\/a> urging for a timely association of the UK to EU programmes such as Horizon Europe, Copernicus and Euratom.<\/p>\n<p>Public support for government funding of research and development is at risk, according to the Campaign for Science and Engineering (CaSE), which has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencecampaign.org.uk\/what-we-do\/public-opinion\/public-attitudes-to-r-d\/\">published<\/a> polling on national attitudes to R&amp;D.\u00a0 Debbie McVitty, Editor encouraged to become a PhD supervisor.<\/p>\n<h2>Government and regulation<\/h2>\n<p>The Welsh Government has published its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.wales\/written-statement-launch-new-innovation-strategy-wales\">Innovation Strategy<\/a>, setting out four missions in education, health and wellbeing, the economy, and climate and nature.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.com\/news\/relationships-register-or-full-ban-catch-22-universities\">Campaigners argue<\/a> that an outright ban on staff-student sexual relationships in England would help avoid some of the \u201cgrey areas and ambiguities\u201d that might arise from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.officeforstudents.org.uk\/publications\/consultation-on-a-new-approach-to-regulating-harassment-and-sexual-misconduct-in-english-higher-education\/\">Office for Students\u2019<\/a> proposed registration scheme.\u00a0 According to <a href=\"https:\/\/yougov.co.uk\/topics\/education\/survey-results\/daily\/2023\/02\/23\/0667c\/2\">a YouGov poll<\/a>, a third of the British public believes that relationships between university staff and students should be completely banned and 36% say that such relationships should be allowed but registered.<\/p>\n<h2>Student recruitment and further education<\/h2>\n<p>Students in the UK are giving up on plans to go on to further study because of the rising cost of living, according to new polling from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.com\/news\/cost-living-pressures-turn-uk-students-further-study\">Office for National Statistics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The UK is exposing itself to risk by being over-reliant on China and India for international students, according to a vice-chancellor. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.com\/news\/over-reliance-china-and-india-leaves-uk-universities-exposed\">THE reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More than 40 per cent of UK adults would like to see greater investment in skills and training, a nationally representative <a
