The guidance on working from home has been lifted and in person meetings can resume. The Governance team will be in touch regarding the format of upcoming meetings.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>UCAS<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucas.com\/data-and-analysis\/undergraduate-statistics-and-reports\/ucas-undergraduate-sector-level-end-cycle-data-resources-2021\">UCAS<\/a> has published its sector-level data resources for the end of the 2021 undergraduate application cycle. <a href=\"https:\/\/wonkhe.com\/blogs\/ucas-end-of-cycle-2021-provider-data\/\">Wonkhe<\/a> has crunched some of the numbers so that you don\u2019t have to.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Quality<\/h2>\n<p>In last week\u2019s digest we reported that OfS had launched its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.officeforstudents.org.uk\/publications\/student-outcomes-and-teaching-excellence-consultations\/\">consultation<\/a> regarding minimum student outcomes and the new Teaching Excellence Framework (\u2018TEF\u2019). The full report is due to be published next month.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Finance and funding<\/h2>\n<p>THE has published an analysis of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.com\/depth\/cash-king-uk-universities-shore-finances?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=editorial-daily&amp;mc_cid=4abf2426e0&amp;mc_eid=f3d44b8d75\">2020-21 financial accounts<\/a> from a number of universities, including Bath. It suggests that the tension may grow between saving money and investing in staff and facilities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In pensions news, UCU has written to USS setting out the union\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucu.org.uk\/media\/12388\/UCU-USS-proposals-letter-26-Jan-22\/pdf\/UCU_USS_letter_26_Jan_2022.pdf\">updated USS pension scheme proposals<\/a>. These proposals are aimed at resolving the dispute and avoiding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucu.org.uk\/article\/12071\/Over-a-million-students-at-68-universities-to-be-impacted-by-up-to-10-days-of-campus-walkouts-starting-in-February\">further industrial action<\/a> planned for February.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>EDI<\/h2>\n<p>Tuesday was the deadline for submitting evidence to the <a href=\"https:\/\/committees.parliament.uk\/committee\/203\/education-committee\/news\/159482\/educational-challenges-faced-by-children-from-gypsy-roma-and-traveller-backgrounds-committee-launches-call-for-written-submissions\/\">House of Commons inquiry<\/a> into the educational challenges facing children and young people from Gypsy, Roma and Traveller backgrounds. The inquiry is part of the Committee\u2019s work examining the issues faced by these groups and how they can be best supported.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Office for National Statistics has also released its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ons.gov.uk\/peoplepopulationandcommunity\/educationandchildcare\/articles\/educationsocialmobilityandoutcomesforstudentsreceivingfreeschoolmealsinengland\/initialfindingsonearningsoutcomesbydemographicandregionalfactors\">initial findings<\/a> examining the earnings outcomes relative to the Living Wage for 25 year olds who received free school meals. This article explores demographic and geographic factors. It is the first in a planned series; the next will explore educational factors.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Student experience and wellbeing<\/h2>\n<p>On Wednesday Conservative MP Richard Graham <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/iplayer\/episode\/m0014fpc\/ten-minute-rule-bill-drink-spiking\">introduced a new Bill<\/a> under the Ten Minute Rule motion which would make the act of spiking its own criminal offence. In addressing the House of Commons, he stated that he believed it was \u201cnot a coincidence\u201d that a four-fold increase in reported cases of spiking in his constituency had coincided with the full re-opening of universities in October 2021. The Bill received the support of the House and the second reading will take place on 18 March 2021.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>QAA has also launched a suite of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qaa.ac.uk\/membership\/collaborative-enhancement-projects\/current-collaborative-enhancement-projects\/embedding-mental-wellbeing\">open educational resources<\/a> that identify good practice in weaving mental health support throughout the HE curriculum. The resources were created through collaborative research by teams from seven higher education providers and a students\u2019 union.
