This was marked by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bath.ac.uk\/announcements\/international-womens-day-2022\/\">programme of events<\/a> across the University, including online talks, panel discussions, workshops, seminars, reading clubs and lists, and poster displays.<\/p>\n<p>Times Higher Education published its data-led report <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.com\/sites\/default\/files\/the_gender_equality_report_part_1.pdf\">Gender Equality: How global universities are performing<\/a>, which examines whether higher education is setting a leading example for other industries. It also published its annual list of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.com\/student\/best-universities\/top-10-universities-led-women?&amp;utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=rankings_newsletter&amp;mc_cid=4c499cc4c6&amp;mc_eid=f3d44b8d75\">world\u2019s top universities led by women<\/a> which revealed that the share of female vice-chancellors in the World University Rankings top 200 has surpassed 20% for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Pensions<\/h3>\n<p>This week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucu.org.uk\/article\/12185\/UK-universities-to-face-new-ballots-for-further-industrial-action\">UCU announced that it will open new industrial action ballots<\/a> over cuts to pensions and deteriorating pay and conditions, paving the way for action to continue throughout the remainder of 2022. The new ballots, which will be for strike action and action short of strike, will be run in both of the union\u2019s ongoing disputes: pensions, and pay and working conditions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Admissions<\/h3>\n<p>On Monday Universities UK launched a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universitiesuk.ac.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/field\/downloads\/2022-03\/uuk-guildhe-admissions-code-of-practice.pdf\">Fair Admissions Code of Practice<\/a> \u2013 a set of self-regulatory principles and illustrative examples of behaviours based on the findings of 2020\u2019s Fair Admissions Review. All UUK board members have signed up to the code and, though it is a voluntary scheme, it is expected that other UUK and GuildHE members will also become signatories.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Regulation<\/h3>\n<p>On Wednesday the National Audit Office published its report on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nao.org.uk\/report\/regulating-the-financial-sustainability-of-higher-education-providers-in-england\/\">regulating the financial sustainability of higher education providers in England<\/a>. The report focuses on the OfS\u2019 responsibilities to protect student interests from the consequences of financial risk in higher education providers.\u00a0 Recommendations from the NAO include that the DfE should \u2018make clear what tolerance the government has for provider failure, and the circumstances under which it would or would not intervene\u2019 and that the OfS should \u2018communicate more effectively with the sector to build trust in its approach as a regulator\u2019. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.com\/news\/ofs-puts-10-providers-enhanced-monitoring-over-viability?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=editorial-daily&amp;mc_cid=fbf335b76b&amp;mc_eid=b29e1bfb3c\">More coverage of the report is available at THE<\/a>.
