Welcome to the new University of Bath online newsletter!

We hope that you will find this newsletter a valuable resource in advising your students. As well as providing practical guidance about University programmes, application and admissions processes, we hope to develop the newsletter to provide links to other useful resources such as brochures and presentations, and will be asking for your feedback and suggestions as we move forward into the future together.

Our first issue focuses on important changes to our Postgraduate admissions processes and our Postgraduate programme portfolio.

Two new publications are also now available - the Undergraduate prospectus 2009 and a new Postgraduate Management brochure incorporating all their Masters programmes . We will shortly be contacting you seperately about these to enable you to update your stock levels.

FInally, may we take this opportunity to thank you all for your efforts  to provide an excellent service to our students across the world.

With Very Best Wishes,

The International Office, University of Bath

Admissions Processsing and the Introduction of the Points Based System for Immigration

In response to the launch of the Points-Based System (PBS) for immigration, along with a need for greater efficiency in postgraduate admissions, we are introducing a number of changes to streamline the admissions process and ensure that we are fully compliant with the new visa regulations.

Under PBS, international students will need to provide original qualification documents as part of their visa application.  The qualifications used for Bath’s decision will be set out in the student’s visa letter.  The University will be required to take a copy of the student’s passport and visa upon arrival (during enrolment/induction).

In order to best meet the above requirements, postgraduate offers will no longer be conditional upon the provision of original documents.  Both Home and Overseas applicants will be required to provide evidence of results as either scan or photocopy and will be made unconditional on this basis.  Students will be required to present original degree certificates, English language certificates and passports (overseas only) at enrolment.  Registration with the University will be temporary until documents have been provided and verified.

We will be revising the postgraduate offer proforma and offer letter accordingly.  Any new offer requests and those currently with the Postgraduate Admissions Team will be issued in line with the above procedure.  Evidence of results for outstanding qualifications will be requested as scan or photocopy.

Students who have already received offers which are conditional upon the provision of original documentation only (not those conditional upon an academic result) will be made unconditional where copies of results have already been provided and academic conditions have been satisfied.  These students will be contacted accordingly.

Students currently holding offers based on a mixture of outstanding academic results and original documentation will be contacted to confirm that the academic conditions remain, but that copies of results, rather than originals, are acceptable.

All students will be informed that they will need to provide original documentation at induction.

With regards references, we will accept scans or photocopies where a header and signature are part of the scan or copy.  Departments can request to see original references in addition to scan/copy and may contact the student for these directly.

New Postgraduate Programmes for 2009 entry

New MSc in International Management

The University of Bath is delighted to add an MSc in International Management to its portfolio. It is designed to meet the growing demands of graduates who are looking to develop their contemporary international business skills.

Our MSc in international Management is distinct from other international management programmes because it offers an interdisciplinary and cross-functional perspective, integrating management studies with a broader understanding of the international economic environment.

Starting in September 2009, it will provide students with an advanced understanding of the international business environment by developing their global perspectives on business, informed by a deep understanding of the different national and cultural contexts in which businesses operate.

The department is accepting applications and making an initial assessment on the information provided. It will be able to formally communicate offers from the beginning of April when the programme has completed the final approval process.

Full details are available at :

New MSc in International Security

This exciting new programme is designed to train postgraduates pursuing international careers in administration, diplomacy, policy formation and research and provides a broad comparative understanding of international security issues from a number of different theoretical perspectives.

Full details are available at: www.bath.ac.uk/esml/mais/index.html

Masters Programmes no longer running from 2009

MSc portfolio in Chemical Engineering

Please be advised that all four of our full-time MSc programmes in Chemical Engineering will no longer run from September 2009. Current applicants are being advised accordingly and new applications are no longer being accepted. This includes:

• MSc in Advanced Chemical Engineering
• MSc in Biochemical & Biomedical Engineering
• MSc in Chemical Engineering with Design
• MSc in Environmental Chemical Engineering

The Department has chosen to re-focus on their undergraduate programmes and research portfolio.
It will still run the multi-disciplinary MSc/Diploma in Integrated Environmental Management by Distance Learning. Designed for scientists, engineers and managers from all sectors, it covers modern technical and managerial methods for dealing with environmental issues that are of concern to businesses and industries across the UK and other parts of Europe.

MA/Diploma in European Cinema Studies will not be running next year 2009-10

We regret that this programme has been suspended, and that we are unable to accept applications for 2009-10. If you do have students who are interested in studying on the programme later, or in applying for MPhil or PhD, please contact esml-cinema@bath.ac.uk for further information.

Greetings from the Bath MBA Admissions team!

Bath MBA Application Deadline for International Students: 1st April, 2009

The MBA Admission team are pleased to advise on the implementation of our streamlined business processes which have been introduced to improve efficiency for candidates applying to the Bath MBA.

During 2008 our on-line application system migrated to a University of Bath hosted system which permits easy transition through the various stages of the admission process and a rapid response to applicants and / or their agents. As a result we are moving away from paper applications.

It would be most helpful if you, as education agents, could encourage prospective Bath MBA candidates who meet all our entry criteria; i.e. those with at least a 2:1 degree equivalent and several years (more than 3) of relevant, managerial, post graduation experience; to apply directly on-line.

Applicants may upload scanned copies of their personal statement, notarized copies of the English translation of their degree and transcript, copies of their English language test results, both references and a digital photograph.

To ensure that we have full contact details of individual agents and to fast track applications it would be most helpful if agents could send an email to the MBA Admissions Office: mbaappa@management.bath.ac.uk advising when a prospective students has submitted his or her application on-line and confirming that all original, supporting documents have been seen.

We have also provided a Checklist and ‘free-text field’ immediately after Question11, where applicants may advise of any outstanding or original documents that are being sent via courier.

Our on-line application system may be found via the Apply Now button located on most of our web pages  www.bathmba.com or by direct clicking through to:

https://www.bath.ac.uk/samis/urd/sits.urd/run/siw_ipp_lgn.login?process=siw_ipp_app&code1=TDUMN-MB13&code2=0003

I look forward to developing a mutually beneficial working relationship over the next few months and would gently remind agents that our deadline for receipt of completed applications for September 2009 entry to the Bath MBA is 1st April, 2009.
