macOS High Sierra, now available

Posted in: Apple, Digital Data & Technology Group

It's that time of year again! We're very happy to let you all know that macOS High Sierra has now been approved for installation on University-owned Macs.

It took a bit longer this year for it to be made widely-available. Changes to the underlying file system (moving from HFS+ to APFS) meant that extended testing was required in order to ensure compatibility with University systems and software, as well as wanting to be sure that the root password vulnerability was fully-resolved by Apple.

If you have 'Self Service' on your Mac then you can upgrade by clicking 'Install' from within the 'Self Service' application—we've featured the download, so it will be on the front page from within 'Self Service'. As I mentioned last year, it's always recommended to ensure that you have all essential files backed-up to network or external storage prior to upgrading your OS, so please bear this in mind before starting your upgrade.

If you have any questions regarding upgrading then please don't hesitate to get in touch.
