A new platform for SAMIS

Posted in: Digital Data & Technology Group, SAMIS

Lots of work has been taking place on SAMIS. This work has been on the internals that makes SAMIS function. The re-organisation of the SAMIS platform adds capacity for it to handle peak load at times when demand on the service is high, for example, when exam results being released.

While we will not move up from version 9.3.0 there are some changes that will be immediately obvious to all users.

Launching SAMIS Desktop Client

The existing icons to launch the SAMIS Desktop client will be replaced with a new SAMIS Launcher. This contains buttons to the LIVE and TRAINING web and desktop clients. The launcher will be at Start > All Programs > SAMIS (Windows 7, Admindesk) and Start > SAMIS (Windows 10). These will appear when the  SAMIS service is restored. If you cannot locate these on the 15th March 2018, please contact the service desk.

This change will be seen by every applicant, student and staff member that uses SAMIS. From the 15 March, the web address for SAMIS will be https://samis.bath.ac.uk

The effect of this is that any email, letter or other communications with references to the old address (https://www.bath.ac.uk/samis/) will need to be updated to https://samis.bath.ac.uk

Because this relates to many items both on and off the web, a redirection will be in place to send anyone attempting to access https://www.bath.ac.uk/samis/ to  https://www.bath.ac.uk/samis/

The redirection is not permanent and is intended to be in place while any existing references  are updated to https://www.bath.ac.uk/samis/

The PDF file type is one of the most popular formats for sharing and providing content. Users who write “SRL” based letters will soon be able to produce PDF’s of the HTML letters from within SAMIS. A full article on making or converting existing letters into PDF will follow.

Future Upgrades

The next upgrade to SAMIS will take place in July 2018. SAMIS will go from 9.3.0 to 9.5.0, bringing new features to the application. In the meantime, we welcome your feedback on the SAMIS service.
