Mojave New Year

Posted in: Apple, Digital Data & Technology Group

We're pleased to let you know that macOS Mojave has now been approved for installation on University-owned Macs.

If you have 'Self Service' on your Mac then you can upgrade by selecting 'Install' from within 'Self Service' (we've featured the download, so it will be immediately visible). We highly recommended that you ensure that you have all essential files backed-up to network or external storage prior to upgrading your OS, so please bear this in mind before starting your upgrade.

Details of the new features that Mojave brings can be found here but we'd like to point out a couple of things specifically:

  • Mojave helps you to be in even more control of your privacy by prompting you when an application tries to access your microphone, camera or photos for the first time
  • Mojave is the last version of macOS that will support 32-bit apps. This means that you may notice an increased number of alerts advising you that applications that are running on your computer will need to be updated in order to work with future versions of macOS. Fret not, though, we'll be working to ensure that updated versions of affected software are made available for installation through Self Service, in good time!

We've also made MATLAB R2018b available, which brings full compatibility with macOS Mojave, and you can find this, alongside Mojave, in 'Self Service'.

If you have any questions regarding upgrading then please don't hesitate to get in touch.
