Stay Safe: Phishing attack featuring a blue or green button

Posted in: Digital Data & Technology Group

We are aware of a phishing email featuring a blue or green button asking you to 'Display Message' and a different subject line each time, being sent to staff and students. Please DO NOT follow any links or enter personal details. If you do receive this email, please report it, using the Report Message button.

If you have followed the link in the email and entered your details

If you have entered your details, you must change your password. If you need further assistance please log a ticket or visit the IT Service Desk. You can also follow our guidance.

Please be aware that we will never ask for sensitive personal details (such as your password or credit card details) in an email. If you are unsure, we detail examples of the most recent phishing attempts on our Wiki page.

Report a suspected phishing message you have received

A great feature we'd like to highlight, now that we have moved to Office 365, is the addition of the 'Report Message' button in Outlook, which you can see below.

If you receive a suspicious email such as this, you can select the ‘Report Message’ button which is located on the top right-hand side of your screen. From there, a drop down list appears, with the options:

  • Junk
  • Phishing
  • Not Junk

Choose the option that applies to the email you’ve been sent and it will be forwarded to Microsoft for analysis and also to our IT Security Team. The email will then be deleted from your inbox keeping you safe and secure.
