On the blog today is guest author Dr Teslim Bukoye, Race Equality Charter Lead, talking about what\u2019s next for the Race Equality Charter Action Plan<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m Teslim Bukoye, the University\u2019s Race Equality Charter Lead and Chair of our University\u2019s Self-Assessment Team. Thank you to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for inviting me to share this update here.<\/p>\n

In September, the University achieved the Race Equality Charter (REC) Bronze Award<\/a>, recognising our commitment to advancing race equality across our community. Building on this milestone, our focus now is to implement the action plan set out in our application, working with teams across the University to deliver meaningful and sustained change.<\/p>\n

Priority areas<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our actions fall under 5 key priority areas:<\/p>\n

  1. Removing barriers to racial inclusivity and sense of belonging amongst staff and students;<\/li>\n
  2. Addressing bullying and harassment issues specific to ethnic minority groups;<\/li>\n
  3. Improving student recruitment and outcomes from under-represented ethnic minority groups;<\/li>\n
  4. Reviewing and addressing the disparity in staff recruitment and career progression from under-represented ethnic groups;<\/li>\n
  5. Increasing representation of ethnic minority group colleagues in decision-making committees across the University.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    We need your support - t<\/strong>ell us about your Race Equality Charter-related activities <\/strong><\/p>\n

    Every day, staff and students across the University are driving change for race equality. From inclusive teaching practices and decolonised curricula to mentoring schemes, community projects and research, your work matters and it deserves to be seen.<\/p>\n

    We are therefore creating a single home to showcase REC-related activities and projects across the University. If you are leading, supporting or participating in any initiative that advances race equality, please share it with us so others can learn from it, join in and build on your impact.<\/p>\n

    We have created a simple form for you to fill in<\/a> and tell us a few details about your project, initiative or activity with the aim of amplifying diverse voices and deepening our collective understanding of belonging and racial inclusion as one of our foundations for true 'global excellence with impact\u2019.<\/p>\n
