{"id":1096,"date":"2011-12-08T17:53:36","date_gmt":"2011-12-08T17:53:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=1096"},"modified":"2011-12-08T17:53:36","modified_gmt":"2011-12-08T17:53:36","slug":"successful-day-out-in-bicton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2011\/12\/08\/successful-day-out-in-bicton\/","title":{"rendered":"Successful day out in Bicton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An enjoyable day at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bicton.ac.uk\">Bicton College<\/a> in Devon today. \u00a0The SWLSC '<a href=\"http:\/\/swlfsc.blogspot.com\">Coalition<\/a>' held its first seminar of the 2011\/12 year with the theme of 'beyond the KPI'. \u00a0This used a collaborative format where 6 of us gave short (5 to 10 min) presentations about the theme, which was followed by 45 minutes of discussion. \u00a0There was a good turn out and the presentations addressed the topic from a wide range of angles, with a good mix of theory, practice, and their intermingling. \u00a0All very successful as an event; informative, good natured, and considerate.<\/p>\n<p>I was particularly taken by a presentation by Paul Martin from Devon Wildlife <a href=\"http:\/\/www.devonwildlifetrust.org\/educati-2\/\">Trust<\/a> who reported on longitudinal work in a local secondary school where year 7 students had been surveyed on entry and a year later using the same instrument which looked at their views on a range of sustainability issues, including their behaviours. \u00a0One year in, their scores fell. \u00a0However, it turns out that this was not because of a lessening of knowledge and understanding; rather, it resulted from a reassessment on their part of what they actually knew and understood, and of how effective their behaviours actually were. \u00a0Thus, the school experience gave rise to a more realistic self-assessment.<\/p>\n<p>Sounds like effective learning to me \u2013 including learning <em>about<\/em> learning by the sound of it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An enjoyable day at Bicton College in Devon today. \u00a0The SWLSC 'Coalition' held its first seminar of the 2011\/12 year with the theme of 'beyond the KPI'. \u00a0This used a collaborative format where 6 of us gave short (5 to...<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":237,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[4,5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1096","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news-and-updates","category-talks-and-presentations"],"acf":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack-related-posts":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1096","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/237"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1096"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1096\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1096"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1096"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1096"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
