{"id":1494,"date":"2012-04-16T09:07:57","date_gmt":"2012-04-16T08:07:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=1494"},"modified":"2012-04-16T09:07:57","modified_gmt":"2012-04-16T08:07:57","slug":"can-you-have-too-much-contact-with-nature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2012\/04\/16\/can-you-have-too-much-contact-with-nature\/","title":{"rendered":"Can you have too much contact with nature?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Probably, I'd say, and the bloke sitting on this\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrenandnature.org\/blog\/2012\/02\/28\/youre-part-of-the-new-nature-movement-if\/\">rock<\/a> certainly looks as if he's running that risk.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to <em><a href=\"http:\/\/environmentaleducationuk.wordpress.com\/2012\/03\/06\/how-do-you-connect-with-nature\">Learn from Nature<\/a><\/em> for alerting me to this long list of possible reasons why contact with nature is a good thing. \u00a0I'm pleased to say that I found a line or two to identify with, even if I'm not wholly at one with every tenet of the <em>New Nature Movement<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>But there's something here for almost everyone, it seems. \u00a0For example ...<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You want to reignite\u00a0<em>all<\/em> of your senses.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re a nature-smart teacher who takes your students outside because you understand the power of nature to help them learn.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re an artist, writer, photographer or musician who knows the power of nature to stimulate creativity, and you use your talents to reconnect people to nature.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re an outdoor recreationist who restores nature.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re a citizen naturalist<\/li>\n<li>You care about the human relationship with nature, whether you\u2019re liberal, conservative\u2026or other.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 18px\">You\u2019re someone who understands that all spiritual life begins with a sense of wonder, and that nature is a window into that wonder.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 18px\">You hunger for authenticity; you believe in nature\u2019s power to create a deeper sense of personal and regional identity<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 18px\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 18px\">... <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 18px\">Do <em>you<\/em> hunger after authenticity? \u00a0Not sure I do, which is maybe where I'm going wrong. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 18px\">I'm off to read the National Trust's '<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationaltrust.org.uk\/press\/press-releases\/view-page\/item804930\/\">50<\/a> things to do before you're <\/span><strong>11<\/strong><strong>\u00be' to see what I've missed out on. \u00a0Meanwhile, h<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 18px\">ere's a more graphic\u00a0take on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tildeengstroem.dk\/main\/index.php?\/project\/the-new-nature-movement\/\">NNM<\/a> idea.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Probably, I'd say, and the bloke sitting on this\u00a0rock certainly looks as if he's running that risk.
