{"id":2292,"date":"2012-09-05T09:43:05","date_gmt":"2012-09-05T08:43:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=2292"},"modified":"2012-09-05T09:43:05","modified_gmt":"2012-09-05T08:43:05","slug":"dfe-remembers-evidence-for-the-effectiveness-of-sustainable-schools-but-its-not-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2012\/09\/05\/dfe-remembers-evidence-for-the-effectiveness-of-sustainable-schools-but-its-not-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"DfE remembers evidence for the effectiveness of sustainable schools \u2013 but it's not policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The research on the effectiveness of sustainable schools\u00a0that colleagues and I carried out at the University of Bath some while back has been reinstated on the DfE website. \u00a0You can find it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.education.gov.uk\/publications\/standard\/publicationdetail\/page1\/DCSF-00344-2010\">here<\/a>. \u00a0This was originally removed when all that DCSF, New Labour-type stuff was hurridly flushed down Mr Gove's toilet \u2013 together with all the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2010\/05\/28\/goodbye-to-all-the-rainbows\">rainbows<\/a> and munchkin cartoons \u2013 and it has taken persistence from within the DfE to have it reinstated on the Department's SD <a href=\"http:\/\/www.education.gov.uk\/schools\/leadership\/schoolethos\/a0070736\/what-is-sustainable-development\">pages<\/a>. \u00a0Much gratitude for that.<\/p>\n<p>The summary text on the web page says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Evidence of the impact of sustainable schools is supported by growing research, policy, and practitioner literature, in the main from the UK but also internationally. Multiple sources of evidence now show that being a sustainable school raises standards and enhances well-being.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This publication sets out the educational and social benefits to young people of learning in a sustainable school. It is written for leadership teams in primary and secondary schools and other educational settings across England. Under five themes, it sets out 15 top tips based on the impact of sustainable schools and education for sustainable development on school improvement and young people\u2019s well-being as defined by Every Child Matters outcomes. It is hoped these will be useful in the context of schools striving to enable learners to become successful, confident individuals, and responsible, caring citizens.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Each theme sets out the tips together with a short summary of the evidence.
