{"id":2785,"date":"2013-04-17T07:34:15","date_gmt":"2013-04-17T06:34:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=2785"},"modified":"2013-04-17T07:34:15","modified_gmt":"2013-04-17T06:34:15","slug":"esd-in-england-less-briefly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2013\/04\/17\/esd-in-england-less-briefly\/","title":{"rendered":"ESD in England \u2013 less briefly ..."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-admin\/post.php?action=edit&amp;post=3403\">wrote<\/a> last month, I have been involved in some work for the UK UNESCO National Commission, part of a good team [<strong><em>Note 1<\/em><em>]<\/em><\/strong>, ably led by Steve Martin, writing an ESD <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2013\/03\/07\/unesco-uk-policy-brief-on-esd\">Brief<\/a> [<strong><em>Note 2<\/em><\/strong>] covering the UK\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 14px\">which ...<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 14px\">\"sets out some of the characteristics of best practice which has emerged in the wide range of learning contexts across the UK as well as an analysis of future opportunities for enhancing the core role of education and learning in the pursuit of a more sustainable future.\"<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This brings together insights from the four UK jurisdictions. \u00a0I drafted the England part. \u00a0In sharing texts, I was struck by the differences between England and the devolved administrations; in the latter, much of what goes on is mediated or strongly influenced by government; In England, now, following the 2010 UK election, and because there is no devolved national or regional administration, or local influence, very little is. \u00a0This has obvious weaknesses, but probably some positives as well it should be said.<\/p>\n<p>Inevitably, in bringing four texts together, whilst adding conclusions and recommendations, it's not always possible to include all the points made \u2013 unless you adopt a rather cavalier attitude to word limits which I tried, but wasn't allowed, quite rightly, to get away with. \u00a0So I am pleased to say that a longer, and more literature-grounded, version of the report has been published in <em>Sustainability. <\/em>Here's the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2071-1050\/5\/4\/1522\/pdf\">link<\/a>. \u00a0This has an extended section on the position in England.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">.............................<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #000080\">Notes<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">1.
