{"id":2904,"date":"2012-12-17T08:45:37","date_gmt":"2012-12-17T08:45:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=2904"},"modified":"2012-12-17T08:45:37","modified_gmt":"2012-12-17T08:45:37","slug":"managing-the-sustainable-schools-alliance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2012\/12\/17\/managing-the-sustainable-schools-alliance\/","title":{"rendered":"Managing the Sustainable Schools Alliance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I wrote a while ago about the re-birth of the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-admin\/post.php?action=edit&amp;post=2816\">Sustainable Schools Alliance<\/a>. \u00a0 A proposed management board for the\u00a0<em>Alliance<\/em> met two weeks ago. \u00a0It was a good turn out with\u00a0a good mix of organisations around the table, including:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Anglian Water, \u00a0 British Gas, \u00a0 Sustrans, \u00a0 NUS, \u00a0 Learning through Landscapes, \u00a0 Bluewave Shift, \u00a0 Modeshift, \u00a0NAEE, \u00a0Blue Marble,<\/p>\n<p>the South West Learning for Sustainability Coalition, \u00a0NAFSO, \u00a0 Korueducation, \u00a0 SevernWyeEnergy, \u00a0 IAPS, \u00a0 SWEA,<\/p>\n<p>the Untidy Britain Group (and Eco-schools), \u00a0 Norfolk County Council, \u00a0 Peterborough LA<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #232323\"><span style=\"color: #232323\">The value of a management board for the <em>Alliance<\/em> is that it will bring like-minded organisations together to try to make a system-level difference through the increased influence that collective size and a breadth of interest brings; and to do what otherwise could not be done. \u00a0It also brings some modest income together for that collective endeavour. \u00a0There is much to be said for all of this.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #232323\">It seems to me that the management board\u00a0might be better termed a p<\/span><em>olicy board. <\/em><span style=\"color: #232323\">This would make it clear that its role was to set and review <em>Alliance<\/em> policy, and receive reports on activity at regular intervals, with SEEd co-ordinating \/ enacting activity. \u00a0A policy board\u00a0designation offers a cleaner separation of functions than does a \"management\" board, especially as the board wouldn't obviously be managing anything, as i<\/span><span style=\"color: #232323\">t seems that it will be SEEd that continues to provide both secretariat and executive function for the <em>Alliance<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"color: #232323\">Whatever it's called, it urgently needs an <\/span><span style=\"color: #232323\">independent chair. <\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I wrote a while ago about the re-birth of the Sustainable Schools Alliance. \u00a0 A proposed management board for the\u00a0Alliance met two weeks ago. \u00a0It was a good turn out with\u00a0a good mix of organisations around the table, including: Anglian...<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":237,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[2,4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2904","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-comment","category-news-and-updates"],"acf":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack-related-posts":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2904","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/237"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2904"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2904\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2904"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2904"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2904"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
